That evening I hardly slept a wink; I was too busy tossing and turning and worrying about Milly Boils and what tomorrow would bring.
I awoke from my horrible slumber from my mother lightly knocking on my bedroom door.
"Yes mother I know the drill. I need to get up out of bed and go downstairs for breakfast." I rubbed my eyes and patted down my matted hair.
"Oh, didn't you have a good nights sleep Indigo?"
"Nah. I am just so worried about Milly and Max. I think I upset him yesterday but I didn't mean to. Anyway, no time to talk about this now." I opened the door to my mum who gave me a hug. I shuffled out of the embrace and hopped down the stairs to get a quick breakfast bar with raspberries and mango. Taking a big bite I ran upstairs to put my uniform on. The uniform was okay, I guess. It was a black mini skirt, black tights, black blazer and a white polo shirt. I put on some mascara, bronzer (to disguise my pale skin), highlighter and some clear lipgloss.
I had no time for hair and just tied it up in a messy bun. I grabbed my bag and my project my mum had put in a carrier bag from the local shop; I laced up my black doc martens.
"Bye Mum! Love ya!" I called as I shut the door behind me, and out I was. I pulled out my phone to let Brittney know that I was nearly around the corner.
'I'm nearly at the corner. Just leaving my house now.'
'I'm already waiting here.'
'Okay'
I gave a friendly smile, "I hope you weren't waiting long Brittney."
"Oh, don't worry I only just got here." We began to walk down the foot path.
Brittney looked so stylish- Even in school uniform. She had accessorised her uniform with delicate necklaces and rings, her hair in a high ponytail, big hoop earrings; no way would she get away with them but she sure did look... different, but amazing at the same time! She even had white knee high socks and some black ballet pumps with a slight heel on them.
"You've got to look good for the boys Indigo." Brittney noticed I was admiring her style.
"Oh ummm, sorry. I just love your jewellery." I blushed.
"Ahh, thanks babes!" She smiled as the white of her chewing gum showed.
Babes? Is that like what girls say to each other? I thought. This was a completely different side of Brittney that I hadn't seen before.
Then I remembered the 'friends' she had at school...
Brittney hangs around with the popular girls called Ivy and Lulu. It hides her problems and makes her less vulnerable, even though lulu can be quite judgmental about things. I remembered how vulnerable she was at my house, spilling all her secrets and telling me all about her parents. She was just acting so different now.
I heard a muffled voice but didn't answer.
"Indigo! You are seriously living on another planet. Do you want some gum?' Brittney raised an eyebrow and smirked.
"We aren't allowed it at school and school is literally five steps away."
"Indigo. You only live once. Be a good friend right and break the rules." Brittney winked and pushed a piece of gum in my hand.
I gave an unsure nod and quickly put it in my mouth. Brittney giggled as we entered the gates into the car park.
"What lesson do you have first Indigo?"
"Ugh, I have science."
"Me too." Brittney and me both sighed in unison.
