Ares stayed linked with me the whole run back to the house, the only thing on his mind was getting back to me.

Despite the chill my frustration with him left me, warmth resonated in my chest.

I huffed in annoyance.

Holding a grudge against my mates was impossible, noted. How fucking convenient for them.

My bare feet are practically bouncing off the smooth grained wood of the back deck.

Finn had given his best attempt to calm my nerves, but the last few minutes as Ares drew closer, he had stepped back and hovered a few feet behind me. Jagger and Ryker had joined him in the open patio door just a moment ago but I had barely acknowledged them.

I wasn't worried about the wolf he saw, but rather about those memories that had resurfaced...

Goddess.

I really knew nothing personal about Ares. What had happened to him? Who had hurt him so fucking badly?

Ares steps out of the trees into the yard and shakes his pure white fur, shifting back to man in a second. Mid-step, he stumbles and screams in agony. My heart stops as bile rises to my throat.

"Ares!" I yelp, my voice breaking.

The heels of his hands dig into his eyes, his lips curling back in a menacing growl. The sand that remained in his eyes and cut into his eyes during the shift. Lightning flashes and strikes into the ground a foot away from where he stood, like he was trying to fight an invisible attacker. Fear strikes through me in a flash, but not for myself.

Was he seriously hurt? Goddess- I remember with a jolt who I am, what I am, and what I can do.

I reach Ares as he drops to his knees in the manicured grass. Forcefully digging my fingers into his hair I yank his face up.

The power is already there, the gates to each of my chakra points already blown open, my power channels and sources already crackling just under my skin.

I've barely been able to hold it back.

The only chakra's power I was comfortable using- my root chakra. Healing energy crackled to life inside of me, my red glowing aura instantaneously expanded five times the size of what I thought I was capable of, surrounding me and Ares like a bubble. My aura wasn't visible, but it read like an energy. Ares' pupils expanded around his red and bleeding eyes as my power brushed against his skin.

I press the palms of my hands onto either side of Ares' head, my fingertips firmly planted on his scalp. As my healing energy crackles down my veins - I was giddy to be able to use my power freely for the first time - my finger joints stretch and bend, giving them the impression of spider legs.

My healing energy flows freely into Ares, my body's natural reservation stores funneling out of me in a steady flow. Red and brown strands of my hair flutter around my head.

Too much.

I pull back, my fingers shaking as I reel in my power, guiding it to cease its flow and settle back into my body.

Breathing in, I try to shut my root chakra gate, pushing it closed.

Ares blinks up at me with tragically pale blue eyes, glazed over with wonder.

"Grayson." He whispers.

My root chakra gate flies open from where I had it half way closed. I grit my teeth and try pushing it closed again.

Ares' gaze travels to the forest floor beneath us, awe shining through our link. "Grayson." He repeats, grabbing my hand.

My root gate flies open once more and my energy gives out, more and more power pulsing from my chakra point, thrumming through my veins.
