6: Kitten

(Wills P.O.V.)

I woke up to find a kitten on the cabin floor. It was cute. It had grey fur and blue eyes.

I ran over to the Hades cabin. Once I knocked on the door, I heard a few groans, then the door was opened. Nico had just woken up.

"Nico, look what I found!" I held out the kitten. "Isn't it cute?"

"Meh. I'm going to go back to bed."

"Nico! You have to help name it."

"I'm tired though."

"Please? I'll let you sleep after."

"Fine. The first thing that comes to mind for me is Fluffy."

"That's perfect," I said.

"Yeah, yeah. Can I go back to sleep now?"

"Go back to sleep. I'll play with fluffy."

He went back to his bed. I set up a little corner of the Apollo cabin for Fluffy. I realized that Fluffy was a girl. She was amazing.

After playing with her for a half a hour, my siblings gathered around, taking turns holding Fluffy.

Nico then shadow traveled into the Apollo cabin. He looked like he was about to pass out.

"Drop the cat. It's a monster. I can sense it," he said, then passed out.

I frowned. How could Fluffy be a monster. 

But I trusted Nico. He could sense souls. He knew if it was a monster or not.

Fluffy transformed into a sabretooth tiger. So Nico was right.

We tried to kill it, before it killed us, but we couldn't. We didn't have good enough arrows.

I did the only thing that made sense. I grabbed Nico's sword and shoved it into the monsters heart. It finally died. Fluffy was dead.

I ran Nico to the infirmary. He just passed out from exhaustion. Thank gods he was not hurt.

The next day, Nico was fully awake. 

"Sorry about Fluffy," he said. "If I was more focused, I would have noticed che quel fottuto gatto era un mostro. E mi dispiace cosi tanto che tu abbia dovuto sperimentarlo. Avrei dovuto agire prima. mi dispaiace tanto."

(He said, If I was more focused, I would have notice that that fucking cat was a monster. And I'm so sorry you had to experience that. I should have acted sooner. I'm so sorry.)

"English, please," I said.

"Oh, merda. Sono un fottuto idiota."

"Hey, I heard idiot in there. Do not call yourself an idiot. But what did you say?"

"It was an apology. Just with a few bad words."

"Oh. Well, whatever you said, I accept your apology."

"Hey, maybe we can go to the pet store and get an actual kitten," Nico said.

"That would be awesome."

 He grabbed my hand, and shadow traveled.

"Nico! You're going to pass out. We are walking back," I said after we exited the shadows.

"Fine."

We looked around at the cats, until I found the perfect one.

"That one," I pointed out a tabby cat.

We adopted that cat, and his name was Toby. We kept it like that.

(13 years later)

"Nico, get Bianca! It's her first day of school!" I yelled.

"Toby peed on the carpet! I have to get the stain out!"

"But Bianca's going to be late for school. We can't be late!"

Nico got up, grabbed my lunch, and hurried out the door with us.

I drove us to Bianca's preschool.

Once we parked, I heard a meow. Toby was in the car with us. 

Nico sighed. "Grab the cat. Bianca can't be late."

I grabbed the cat, and we walked into the the preschool. Bianca gripped tightly to my hand.

The teacher walked up to us. "Why do you have a cat with you?" She asked.

"The cat hopped in the car with us, and we didn't know," Nico explained.

Bianca turned to Nico and I. "Daddy, Papa, can you stay?'

Nico laughed. "No, we can't. Daddy over here has to go to work, and I have to clean the house. Unless you want to do chores with me, I think you will have more fun here."

 "No, I do not. Bye Papa!" She said and gave him a hug. "Bye Daddy!" She gave me a hug, then ran off.

"I think your kid will do great here," The teacher said.

Toby started to hiss. I sighed. Looking at Nico, I said, "Let's go."

"Bye," Nico told the teacher. "Come on Toby."

Toby didn't budge. There was a monster in this room.  

"Can our cat stay here?" I asked. "Bianca doesn't like to be by herself."

"I don't see why not," The teacher said. "Just only today."

We left the cat to guard Bianca. 

Nico looked at me once we got into the car. "Now who's going to alert us if monsters are nearby?"

I laughed. "I think you can do that."

He huffed. "Fine."
