the guy fell backwards and grabbed his nose, which was now spewing out blood. he scrambled to his feet, eyes narrowed.

he lunged at ashton, punching him in the eye. ashton stumbled, but quickly recovered, throwing punches every which way.

"stop!" i exclaimed, grabbing onto ashton's arm. he stopped and visibly relaxed as he backed away.

"you're lucky your boyfriend was here, bree. i would have done some naughty things to you," the man smirked at me, before quickly turning and making his way out of the kitchen as ashton took a step towards him.

"are you okay?" i looked up at ashton, wiping some blood from his lip. "i'm fine. what about you? did he do anything to do? i know i shouldn't have turned around," ashton rambled, his eyes full of concern.

"he didn't do anything, just said stuff," i waved it off. "thank you for doing that, though. you know, punching him."

"it was nothing," ashton shrugged, staring hard at the ground.

"do you need ice?" i asked.

"i said i'm fine," ashton grumbled, obviously still upset.

"alright, then," i sighed. "but still, thank you."

"how many times are you going to tell me thank you?" ashton chuckled, looking at me in amusement.

"until the point gets across," i smirked at him, leaning back on the counter next to him. "why'd you even help me, anyway?"

a flash of emotion crossed ashton's face, his features softening. "i just didn't want him to hurt you," he mumbled, playing with his fingers.

"hey, don't be embarrassed," i nudged him with my elbow. "thank you." i repeated, laughing.

"shut up," ashton broke into a laugh, the draped his arm around my shoulders.

i tensed for a second due to the action being so unexpected, but then relaxed. he seemed to realize what he just did, because he quickly removed his arm, letting it dangle awkwardly beside him again

"do you wanna go soon?" ashton asked quickly, trying to soothe the tension.

"we just got here," i pointed out, chuckling. ashton shrugged, glancing behind him.

"looks like we lost luke and michael," he groaned, looking towards the living room, where people were all dancing on the couches, chairs, and each other.

"it won't be that hard to find them, right?" i tried to convince him, but he just rolled his eyes.

"let's just find them and get out of here. i'm already sick of this party," ashton grumbled, leading me towards the living room. "try not to lose me," he added, grabbing onto my hand.

a weird feeling erupted in my stomach as we pushed our way through the crowd, looking for a tall head of blonde and colorful hair.

so many people were squished together in the room, making it seem smaller than it actually was. i attempted to hold onto ashton, but his sweaty hand caused me to lose his grip a few times.

once we made it through most of the crowd and more people were spread out, ashton dropped my hand and hastily made his way over to some girl who had auburn hair and was showing a lot of cleavage.

she turned away from talking to a few people on one of the couches and grinned widely when she looked at ashton. he talked to her quickly as she listened, taking a sip out of her cup.

she turned and pointed with her cup towards the front of the house, in which ashton nodded and started walking away.

the girl stepped back in his way, edging closer as she said a few things to him. ashton rolled his eyes and pushed past her, turning to lock eyes with me. he nodded, signaling to me to follow him, before walking towards the front of the house.
