Saturn

He felt like a dream.

I awoke with a start, although I had just had a nightmare. But no, the only nightmare was the prospect that it had all been nothing but a dream. The letter, the forgiveness, the sex. How lucky I felt when I glanced over and saw him lying next to me, very much real.

"My darling, are you okay?" Calvin asked softly, stirring awake at my startle.

Calvin's classes had finished weeks ago, but I still had a Creative Writing Final left to complete. I didn't see why I couldn't stay here with him and prepare. "Can I stay home today?" I asked, ignoring his question.

"Why, is something wrong?" Calvin asked.

I shook my head. "I just want to be with you," I said, "we missed nearly three weeks together. Why would I waste my time in Professor Merriwhether's class?"

"You have your exam in a few days," Calvin reminded me, as if I didn't already know. All I had to do was write a short story with a topic the Prof would assign the day of. How could you even study for something like that?

I hooked my arms around Calvin's shoulders, giving him the wide-eyed stare I knew he loved so much. "Please?" I murmured, pressing my hips against him teasingly.

"What makes you think you need my permission to skip class?" Calvin asked, his hands sliding up my spine.

"Well, if I don't do what you want you'll be all grumpy for the rest of the day," I said. This may have been a stretch, but I knew Calvin would find it amusing.

"It's your decision, my love," He assured me.

"You already know what I'll choose," I smirked.

Calvin pulled my head against his shoulder. "And I would absolutely adore spending the day with you." I smiled, holding him for a few more moments before calling the main office to let them know I wouldn't be in class today. I had hardly any absences, so this was no big deal.

I set my phone aside and began tracing small circles on Calvin's bare back. His shoulder was my new favourite pillow.

"What's your middle name?" I asked out of the blue. Calvin would never grow weary of her sporadic questioning periods.

"Theodore," he replied, "after my father. I don't like it much, as you can imagine."

"Oh," I said, "mine's Andromeda. After the constellation."

"Saturn Andromeda Grey," He mused, "as if your name could get any more beautiful."

"Calvin Theodore McKnight," I grinned, testing his own name on my tongue, "I love it."

"Perhaps I do as well," Calvin murmured, "my father has just proven that he really does care about my well-being. That's a first for him."

"Of course, he cares about you," I said, "I'm glad you two are back on the right path."

"Me too," Calvin said, "and the same goes for us. We're stronger than ever now."

I kissed his neck gently, silently agreeing. "What are we going to do today?" I asked, dreaming up all the possibilities. If it was anything like last night, today would be incredible.

"I have a few ideas," Calvin said softly. He flipped me onto my back, and I thought he might be about replicate last night's festivities.

"Can I take you out tonight?"

I arched up into him. "You can take me out any night."

"Good," Calvin murmured, "I'll make it a surprise. No asking questions."

I laughed. Not asking questions was not something I was good at, but anticipation for our date later would persuade me.

As he always did, Calvin was going to outdo himself.

An ocean of stars danced over us as Calvin lead me out into the scene he had created. A blanket on a bed of grass. White roses for me. And best of all, the telescope I had bought for his room.

As usual, Calvin had thought of everything.

I dropped down onto the blanket eagerly, kneeling to peer through the awaiting telescope.

"Don't touch, darling."

"Why can't I adjust it, have you set it specifically?" I mused. Even in the night, his eyes sparkled.

"Indeed," Calvin answered, joining me on the blanket, "why don't you have a look?"

He held the old telescope still as I brought it to my eye, scanning the night for Calvin's intended destination.

"What do you see?" he murmured.

In the stunning sea of endless stars, I spotted a planet among them. Light brown in colour, with unmistakable icy rings.

"Is that...Saturn?" I asked softly, emotion thick in my throat. I pulled my eye from the telescope to look at him.

"Correct," Calvin answered, "and did you see the star next to it that is slightly brighter than the rest? I spotted it from my window the other night. I like to think of it as me."

I peered back through the looking glass, finding the bright "star" he was referring to. "That's Titan, Cal," I chuckled, "Saturn's largest moon. But sure, I suppose it can be its Sun as well."

"Close enough," Calvin agreed, "you used to say I more closely resembled the moon. Something about being mysterious, with part of me always concealed."

I nodded. "Don't forget beautiful."

Calvin grinned. "Well. None of me is concealed anymore, my love. I've officially upgraded to the Sun."

I giggled at his wit, then threw myself into his awaiting arms. He pressed me into the blanket and kept me close as he read to me until we I drifted off.

There was nothing in the world that compared to Calvin's love. Nothing that could even come close. And as I dreamed of him, even subconsciously I couldn't fathom that he was truly mine.

My Calvin.
My Sun.
