It was the Friday before Easter Sunday and it was a beautiful sunny morning. Huckleberry Hound knew Easter was coming up and he was so excited. Easter had to be his favorite holiday of all time next to Christmas and Halloween! For the moment, he was sitting in his favorite chair, reading one of his favorite childhood stories, "The Tale of Peter Rabbit."

"Ol' Mrs. Rabbit said, 'Now my dears, you may go into the fields, or down the lane, but don't go into Mr. McGregor's garden!' Well we all know what Peter's gonna do, the lil' rascal. Uh huh huh!"

Huck had always loved Beatrix Potter's stories. He remembered cracking up over how much of a mischief maker Tom Kitten was, or about how relieved he felt when Jeremy Fisher escaped from being swallowed by a trout. He also remembered crying when Jemima PuddleDuck's first batch of eggs had been crushed and eaten by the foxhound puppies after they had saved her from the fox. But Peter Rabbit had always been his most favorite of all, and he found it perfect to read around Easter.

Just then, before he could read anymore, the phone rang. He immediately put the book down and answered. "Howdy! This is Huckleberry Hound!"

"Hey, hey, Huck!" It was Yogi Bear! "I was hopin' you would be home today, and I guess I'm in luck! We're gonna go get some eggs to dye for Easter! You wanna come along?"

"Sure thing!" Huck beamed. "Coloring eggs is my favorite part of Easter! I'll be right over there! You all meetin' up at the supermarket?"

"Yep! We'll see you there?"

"See you there in a few, Yogi!"

Huck hung up the phone and closed his book. "This can wait!" he said. "I've been lookin' forward to buyin' some eggs to color!"

So he put on a pair of bunny ears, and started heading to the store to buy some eggs. And as he walked down the street, he sang a song.

"Here comes Peter Cottontail, hoppin' down the bunny trail
Hippity-hoppin', Easter's on its way!"

As soon as he reached the store, he saw his friends in the aisle of Easter decorations.

"Happy Easter, fellers!" he called.

"Happy Easter to you too, Huck!" Dixie replied.

"You're just in time!" Pixie smiled. "We're about to go and see how many cartons of eggs we can buy for a big Easter egg coloring party!"

"And on Easter morning," Yogi Bear added. "We're going on an egg hunt!"

"We're gonna find some eggs, and see what surprises they have inside!" Boo-Boo beamed. "See? There are flyers posted all over the store talking about it!"

Huck paused to take a look at one of the flyers. "Hill Street Neighborhood annual egg hunt on Easter Sunday at the community park! Join us for a spring celebration with eggs to find and eat, and a musical performance that can't be beat!" His eyes sparkled with joy. "Golly! That sounds like a heap of fun!"

"I hope the Easter bunny brings lots of eggs for us to hunt for!" Yogi said excitedly. "He visits us every year!"

"Yeah, and the egg hunt has always been a big hit with everyone here in town!" Mr. Jinks added. "Some people said it was just for the kids, but the grown-ups love to participate too!"

"Well, you know what they say!" Huck chuckled. "You're never too old to be a kid!"

The gang walked into the store and made their way through the aisles, looking at all the cute and colorful Easter decorations, and soon they reached the section where all the cold, refrigerated food was kept. They ended up buying at least six cartons of eggs, one for each of them to color at their egg party! They also made sure to pick up plenty of dye, and some vinegar to help make it with. Of course, Huck couldn't help but stop in the candy aisle to buy himself some jellybeans and chocolate eggs, and he made sure to buy extra for his friends to share with him.
