One morning, Huckleberry Hound and his friends were walking through the park, trying to make up a new song for their next show. They agreed to come up with a song about music and dance, but Yogi Bear kept adding lines related to food.
"Dancing seems to make us smile,
We could keep on dancing for a while," Huck sang.
"But when the sunshine hits your eye
Like a yummy pizza pie..." Yogi chimed in.That gave the gang a good laugh, except for Jinks, who rolled his eyes.
"Yogi, why is it that you always have to think about your stomach?"
"Well, that's easy!" Yogi replied. "I'm hungry!"
"You're always hungry! And we just had lunch!" Jinks sighed. "Sometimes I wonder if you weren't born like other bears, but hatched from a giant picnic basket!"
Huck cracked up, holding his side. "That's a good one, Jinksey!"
Pixie and Dixie also couldn't help giggling over Jinks' little joke. But all of a sudden, something suddenly perched on top of Huck's hat: a parrot! It had bright red and yellow feathers and a bright green tail. It squawked and flapped its wings.
"Save me! Save me! Awwk!"
Huck looked up to see the parrot sitting on his hat.
"A parrot!" he cried. "Well land sakes! I never thought I'd ever see one of these in the park!"
"Shee! Parrots don't live around here!" Jinks exclaimed. "Must be escaped from the pet shop!"
"Or the zoo," Boo-Boo wondered.
"Awwk! Save me!" the parrot jabbered again. Then he leaned down and looked at Huck in the eyes, giving him a peck on the forehead with his sharp beak.
"Yeow!!" Huck shouted. "That hurt!"
"Maybe that's his way of shaking hands," Yogi mumbled, scratching his head.
"What does he mean by 'save me?'" Dixie asked.
"Beats me," Huck replied. "What are you talkin' about, Mr. Parrot?"
"Please, call me Roger!" the parrot replied.
"Roger? Hey! That's almost like Jolly Roger!" Pixie laughed.
"Yeah, 'cause pirates always have parrots!" Dixie giggled.
"Very funny!" Roger snapped. "I don't suppose you have any peanuts? I'm starving!"
"Sorry, but no," Huck sighed. "I love peanuts too, but I'm afraid there ain't none here in the park. Maybe you could try a nice big walnut instead? There's plenty of them growing around here!"
"I don't like walnuts," Roger replied. "I only like peanuts! And if I don't get some soon, I'm gonna keel over!"
"I don't carry peanuts around while I'm walking," Huck explained. "Even if I did, I'd eat em'!" Then he let out a loud laugh.
"Boy, you sure love to make wise cracks, don't you?" the parrot snapped back.
"Gee, this is a bird with quite the attitude," Jinks whispered to Yogi.
"Okay, Roger, I get it," Huck said. "We'll try to find you some peanuts here soon, but first tell me where you came from."
"Yeah, there aren't any parrots who live out here," Boo-Boo nodded.
"I don't live here! I'm lost!" Roger squawked. "My owner is a movie star from Hollywood! His name is...oh, I forgot!"
"You forgot?!" Jinks exclaimed in disbelief.
