you rushed down the stairs and looked at your watch, if it was right, you were five minutes late. you finally reached the dining area, and there sat maggie, jesus and, just your luck, enid. you sort of forgot that enid was basically maggie's child at this point.

"sorry we're late. carl is following close behind; thank you for inviting us to dinner tonight." you said this as you greeted everybody and walked to your seat. maggie sat at the end of the table and jesus and enid sat on either side of her, which left one of you to sit by enid and one of you to sit by jesus. in your mind you knew carl most likely wouldn't want to sit by his ex, so you did it for him. maggie eyed you two, knowing there could possibly be some tension.

"hi, enid. how are you?" you tried to be friendly even though every time you saw her face, jealousy would bubble up and rise in you. you knew it wasn't a cute thing to be jealous, but you couldn't help it.

"oh, im good. how are you? how's alexandria? how's ca-"

carl then walked into the dining area, he had a bounce in his walk until he saw you sitting next to enid, even just the fact that enid was there made him sort of lose some of his after-sex serotonin. you would say all of it, but you knew the reality of how horny carl can still be. the second carl came in the room, you could see enid shift in her seat a bit, her eyes got a brightness in them.

you wondered why in the hell maggie and jesus would separate you and carl and put either of you next to enid, but life goes on. so you sat as a friendly force next to her. as dinner lead on, you could see enid glancing up at carl multiple times throughout the meal. everybody chatted and talked with each other, carl wasn't really even trying to look at enid, because he knew she was acting sort of weird. and he didn't want to associate with his ex, like most people.

"so, anyways. the crops have really been flourishing in alexandria this year, im thinking that our more autumnal crops should do pretty well once we work our way into the season more." you said this to maggie and jesus, who were interested to know about the crops situation.

"what kinds of crops are you guys planning for?" maggie asked.

"carrots, spinach, garlic, brussels sprouts, cabbage, you know, things like that. we were hoping to plant some onions, broccoli, cauliflower, and more potatoes, those seem to be the most wanted by the people in the community." you smiled as you said this.

"same here, potatoes don't last very long here, we had to start rationing them out a lot more than before." maggie added. you all talked to each other, but enid stayed mostly quiet. you weren't exactly sure why, because you were never mean to the girl, neither was carl, really. they broke up and she left for hilltop and that was that. so you wondered why she still felt so odd around you. you were as friendly as one could really be.

     small time jump:

"so we're out there, it's like pitch black, y/n was walking in front of me and then we heard something, we obviously assumed it was a walker, so y/n got her sword out and was like, y'know, preparing, and then aaron walked up-"

"may i be excused?" enid interrupted carls sentence. you were confused by this, she couldn't wait until he was finished? everybody else was interested.

"sure, yeah. take my plate, will you?" maggie asked enid. enid just nodded, took the plate from maggie and walked out of the dining room. maggie furrowed her eyebrows as she watched her walk away.
