ᴡᴀʀɴɪɴɢs: sᴍᴜᴛ!

today was a slow day in alexandria. it's been a slow week, really. i never thought the apocalypse could ever become boring, but here we are, living in a cookie cutter community while the dead roam around the walls. how settling. anyways, im currently on my way to keep watch while rosita goes on her lunch break.

i didn't expect it to be such a sunny day, i squinted my eyes and scrunched my nose, looking down at my feet. all of a sudden i felt a tall, strong body bump into me. my head snapped up faster and harder than ever, and there i was met with one eye wrapped in gauze and the other a piercing blue eye and freckles. carl grimes. we rarely ever talked, i usually stay away from people my age, he kind of intimidated me, to be honest.

"oh god, y/n, i'm sorry about that." he said, his voice was deep but sweet sounding. he sort of blew me away. "no, that's alright, sorry. i wasn't really looking up. the sun.... it's bright." i awkwardly said as i pointed up at the sun, shielding my eyes with my other hand. i swear, this is so embarrassing. "no, th-that's okay, see you around y/n." he chuckled a bit and walked past me.

ugh, why can't i be normal for the love of god. he made me nervous and i didn't like that. i continued walking and didn't get far until i heard his voice, saying my name for the third time in 45 damn seconds. "y/n! i actually have something to ask you," i turned around to see him lightly jogging back toward me "yeah?" i asked, unsure of what would come out next.

"i was actually wondering if you would like an invite to this little get together that's being thrown. just like a little potluck, some of the families are getting together and bringing tag alongs, i don't really see you around all that often except for when you're on watch, i thought maybe you'd be interested?" he looked down at his hands and then into my eyes multiple times.

i wasn't much of a social butterfly. but should i really turn him down, that would be weird. "uh, yeah, i'll think about it, thanks" i simply said, trying not to stumble over my words. he nodded. "alright, well, i'll see you if i see you." he smiled and walked away for good this time. it didn't really hit me until now that he said that he sees me on watch. is he keeping tabs on me or something?

*time skip* (around 5:30pm, maggie's house)

"i don't know maggie, i feel like i'm reading into it. i don't think i should go. who am i even gonna talk to?!" i said, putting my hands on my face to show my discomfort with the topic of being in "public" again. "calm down. you need to go and hang out with some teenagers your age. and you also need to quit freaking out. talk to carl, he is the one who invited you after all," maggie giggled as my dramatics entertained her.

"i don't have any nice clothes to wear, i don't know how to pull myself together to be around people again, and plus, carl has friends that are teenagers and you KNOW how i feel about groups of teens." maggie seemed entertained. "you know what, i have an idea."

she disappeared into her closet just to come out with a hair straightener and a little bag with simple makeup products. "what? i haven't seen beauty products in years! there's no way that's not expired." i said, shocked. "most definitely is, but it will work. we've had worse things on our faces." i gave maggie a "knowing" look.

she rolled her eyes and smiled, shaking her head in disbelief. around 30mins later my y/h/c was straightened and my face was as dolled up as much as mascara, concealer, lipgloss, and a little bit of eyeshadow could do.
