I had turned over the bracelet in my hand, waiting for Sirius's reflection to show up. Just as I was about to give up, thinking he might have gone to sleep, his stormy grey eyes flickered in the mirror like surface and shortly after, his features got clearer.
He was in a dark place but there was some dim source of light that made his features visible.
"Kat, hey, how are you?" He asked, adjusting the light so that I could see him clearly.
"Hi. I'm fine... How are you guys?"
He turned as if to check something then looked back into the mirror on his necklace, "we're fine too. Moony's being sent to a lot of Order missions these days and he's tired so he went to bed early. And I was looking after Buckbeak earlier so I didn't notice you wanted to talk."
Right, that made sense. Sirius took great care of Buckbeak so of course he would have been busy.
"Sorry, we can talk some other time if you're busy," I added, feeling slightly awkward all over again.
"No, I'm free now," he insisted but then his grey eyes narrowed slightly as if he had realized something was wrong, "what did you want to talk about? You don't look well, did something happen at school? Did the toad try anything to hurt you?"
With the last question, I could see a slightly protective spark in his eyes but I had to clear his doubts before he decided to get revenge on Umbridge for all the hell she had put me through.
"No, nothing of the sort happened," I explained, watching his features ease in relief, "I... I almost had a vision a short while ago. And it felt bad..."
Sirius and Remus were aware that I had the ability to catch glimpses of the future though they did not know the full extent of those visions. His features had morphed into concern as he asked, "what do you mean by almost?"
"Well, I was with a friend at that time and he snapped me out of it by sprinkling water over me. But now I can't go to sleep because I'm scared I'll see it in my dream and it would be something utterly horrible," I took in a deep breath, trying to ease my tensed up nerves.
Perhaps it was a silly thought and I shouldn't be overthinking. But for some reason, I strongly felt that vision was about something horrible and if I saw it, it would end up being true.
Just like most of my visions did.
"Hey, don't get worried," he spoke up in a soft tone, "take in a deep breath and let go of the worries burdening you."
"I guess I'll try," I took in a deep breath, following his words as he gently directed me to calm myself down.
After I was feeling somewhat better, he resumed with the conversation, "I don't know as much about this as Moony but sometimes visions get triggered by a certain object or memory. What were you doing that triggered the vision?"
"I was just in the common room with Davies, he's the Head Boy here," I replied, recalling everything as it was, "I had come back from the after curfew rounds and I was tired. So I decided to rest in the common room for a while before going to bed... Next thing I remember is that Davies had ordered a copy of the Quibbler that he showed to me in which Harry..."
A sharp pain erupted through my head at that memory and I almost dropped the bracelet as I tried to clutch at my throbbing temples.
"Kat, stay here, stay with me," Sirius's voice reached and I tried to focus on it with all my might, "you're not going to have a vision. You won't. Just keep all your focus on my voice."
He sounded quite confident that it would work and perhaps that was what made me root myself to the present, stopping myself from slipping into the past or the future.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have made you recall it," he remarked finally and I looked at him in alarm.
At least that had snapped me out of the vision again but that horrible feeling I had about it didn't fully subside.
"No, it's okay," I replied though my voice was still shaky from the sudden events.
"It's really late now and you must have classes early tomorrow morning," he replied, "you must rest."
"But I'm scared," I was still hesitant to close my eyes and engulf myself in the darkness.
"Don't be," his confident voice felt quite reassuring at the moment, "you will not dream about any vision, trust me."
I really hope that is the case.
After a while, he spoke up, "I have to go too now. We have an Order meeting tomorrow so I have to make sure this place isn't as shabby as it usually is. But Kat, I want you to make me a promise."
I paused, "what promise?"
"Promise me that you'll let me know if you have any other vision or if you're just troubled in general, don't hesitate calling me for help."
A soft smile flickered on my features to hear that. Sirius was the sort of person who always wanted to be there for his friends and do all in his power to keep them safe. Granted he wasn't able to do much with the Order due to his status as a fugitive but he wanted to help where he could.
"I promise. Thanks a lot."
"You're welcome, now ditch all these worries and good night."
The way he said it made me chuckle lightly, "okay, good night."
Talking to him about it did make me feel a lot better, I must admit. And by then, I was finally feeling sleeping so I got in bed and pulled the blanket over myself.
There were only a few hours left until breakfast so there was very little time for me to sleep. But I needed to rest because I had a feeling that breakfast would be an uproar.
The Quibbler would have been distributed throughout the wizarding world and it was sure to have cooked up a storm by then. There was a lot I'd have to deal with in the morning so it was better to get all the rest I could manage.
