Letting out a hesitant breath, you peeked outside. Jade had gone out for a bit. Something about an emergency. This could be your time to escape. Sneaking out of the hut, you went around the back and moved as fast as you could. Some of the other Naga's seemed to bow to you as you went by. You figured that's how they greet strangers, so you copied them. There were so many of them, you could hardly believe it. No matter how much you tried to avoid being seen, someone would see you.
Letting out a sigh of relief, you grinned when you finally found the edge of the village and the start of the jungle. You're almost there. Staying close to the shadow of the last hut, you almost made it to the jungle. However, you had to stop, when a Naga moved around the building to block you. Fear hit you as you backed up a bit. It was Neeka's mate, the red head Naga. There's no way you can fight him. He's going to drag you back to Jade and who knows what will happen to you then.
"That's not a good idea." He explained, before holding out a bowl to you, "This will last you a while."
Looking in the bowl, you frowned when you saw some raw meat in it. Sure, he might have warned you about the stew, but he's still a Naga. Glaring up at him, you saw the corner of his mouth twitch up as if he found your mistrust amusing.
"It's deer." He whispered, looking around quickly, "I caught it earlier."
"How do I know I can trust you?" You hissed, immediately flinching at the lisp you had, "You're Neeka's mate, aren't you?"
"I'm as much her mate as you are Jade's." He stated, pushing the bowl into your hands, "If you escape now though, Jade will hunt you down. He's one of the best here. That and you don't have anyone else close to understanding you besides me."
You hate it, but he has a point. He's been the nicest Naga so far. At least he's not going to Jade right now. If he was really that bad, he would drag you back against your will. It would be easy for him after all.
"Thank you." You sighed, before holding a handout to him, "I'm (Y/N)."
"Damian." He introduced shaking your hand and making you pause.
That name sounds familiar for some reason. You know that name, but you can't remember how. You'll have to think about it later. Jumping at the roar behind, you glanced over your shoulder, then pressed yourself against the hut. Jade launching himself at Damian. The two of them rolling as they fought. They were a tangle of brown and green coils, as well as fangs, and claws.
"Stay away from my mate!" You head Jade scream before they backed away from each other.
Jade between you and Damian, with his fangs still out. Absolute fury on his face as he hissed. Damian didn't seem bothered by it. He actually went back to his neutral expression, though you could see irritation in his eyes.
"Take better care of her then." He growled, "She came out here looking for food, because she was hungry. You left her alone without food in a place where she has no idea where food is."
At that Jade, seemed to relax a little, but turned his glare to you, "Is that true?"
Nodding while shaking, you held the deer meat closer. Guilt crossed Jade's face as he relaxed completely. He turned to you before pulling you into a hug.
"I'm sorry my mate." He sighed, "I didn't mean to scare you or leave you hungry. That doesn't mean you should be near her, Damian."
"Your sister told me to help take care of her." Damian scoffed, as if he won a contest, "You know no one can disobey her. Not even you."
Jade hissed out a curse word, you didn't understand, but you could see he wanted to fight Damian again. You didn't even know he had a sister. Looking between them, you were prepared to take the meat and back way up. Deciding to take a test, you flicked your tongue out. Wincing when the air seemed to taste like fire and smoke. This is not good.
"Let's go, (Y/N)." Jade muttered, wrapping an arm around your waist and pulling you along.
"You have to take her to the celebration tonight." Damian announced, making Jade pull you closer to him, almost possessively, "Your sister said you have to show her how to be a Naga. You can't hide her and expect her to live for long."
Horrified at those words, you looked up at Jade. Absolute hatred on his face before he nodded and pulled you away. You can't figure out Damian. He acts like he's going to help you, but he insists you learn how to be a Naga? You have to admit he's caught your interest. Not that you would dare to ever tell Jade you want to know more about Damian.
Flinching when he practically tossed you inside, you backed yourself into a corner. Curling up, which you now know is a reflex. There was hurt on his face, when he saw what you did. He let out a sigh, before he started a fire under the cooking pot.
"I'll cook this for you." He sighed, holding a hand out for the bowl of meat.
Hesitating for a second, you handed him the bowl. Watching as he started mixing ingredients. You really don't want to talk to him, but you want to know what you're going to be forced into going. What kind of celebration is it, mostly.
"What celebration are we going to?" You asked quietly, making him look up at you with his golden eyes.
"It's a unity celebration." He answered, "Naga's don't have weddings like you humans do. We mate in private, then there is a celebration for the new couple. It lasts nearly all night though. You'll be human for most of it."
Nodding, you debated on asking him your next question, but went for it, "Who's your sister?"
"My sister?" He almost seemed like he was surprised at your question, but looked back at the food he was making, "My sister is high priestess Neeka."
