Chapter 20

"Sweetie, you want coffee?" You called, hearing a yes from your boyfriend, in the office, down the hall.

Chuckling at that, you started making coffee and breakfast. It's already been three months since you escaped the island. The nightmares never stopped for you or Damian.  You've found that they're manageable when you two are together, so you moved in together. You pleaded with your bosses to forget exploring the island. That it wasn't safe for outsiders. They never gave you a definite answer, so you left your job. You now teach at the same school as Damian, so you get to ride to and from work every day.  Macy even moved to the apartment across the hall, though now she keeps to herself mostly.

Turning on the news for some background sounds, you glanced up when you heard the president talking. A smile on his face like he was excited or proud of something. Sighing, you decided to turn your eyes to breakfast as you listened. 

"I'm proud to announce that this is a big step for humankind." He declared, making you roll your eyes as you went to take coffee to Damian, "Our team of scientist recently discovered an island. An island of unique and reptilian like individuals."

Freezing at his words, you turned to the T.V. shocked. They actually made the island public knowledge. Your shock turned to horror when you saw Jade and Neeka slither onto the stage by the president. Smiles on their faces, as they addressed the crowd.

"I am Neeka. This is my brother Jade." She introduced, "On our island, we are called Nakerans. Your culture knows us as Nagas. We are happy and excited to explore the outside world after having been cut off since the beginning of time. We hope you love our island too and the blessings we bring."

She smiled with her fangs. You could swear you saw the poison dripping from them. Your eyes went to Jade by her. Even with an eyepatch on, it felt like he was staring straight through the T.V. to you. You could see the cruelty in his eyes, though he smiled. His forked tongue flicked out, which seemed to suck the air from your lungs. You were only snapped out of your trance by glass shattering.

"(Y/N), are you okay?" You could hear Damian's voice getting closer, but you felt like you couldn't move, "(Y/N)?"

Feeling his fingers tilt your chin up to look at him, you saw his eyes go from loving to concerned. He scanned you, before grabbing your hands. You didn't even realize they were empty. Looking down you saw the coffee cups shattered on the floor.

"Honey, you're shaking. What's wrong?" He asked gently, before tears started swelling in your eyes.

Grabbing the remote, you rewind the news and paused on Jade and Neeka. You heard his gasp as he went tense.

"Shit, what are they doing on the news?" He asked, running his hands through his hair, "Are they....are they here, on the mainland?"

"They're introducing them to society." You whispered, playing the news again.

Your stomach twisted when Neeka shook the president's hand. He moved closer, clearly posing for a picture. There were a few flashes before Neeka held up a vile of what looked like a clear liquid.

"Our kind produce this liquid which is a cure for most illnesses. We are gifting this to all who wish to join us." She announced, giving the president the vial, which he drunk with no hesitation.

Then the screen went to a female news reporter, "The introduction of a new race, that happened last night, has some people calling it the most historical point in human history. Other are calling it a mistake..." 

You couldn't even listen to the rest. You felt your stomach twist, making you run to the bathroom to empty your stomach of whatever you had for dinner the night before. Sobs of fear hitting you as you felt Damian rub your back.
