The wheel says...
Gran Torino???
Well, I guess that's today's one shot
(Song: Falling Behind--- Laufey)
--------
Japan may not have been your first spot to land when it came to starting your hero career, but you're glad it came up that way.
The Cherry Blossoms were in full bloom, sprinkling it's delicate flowers across the streets. You've always admired the sight of Mother Nature beauty.
If only you had someone to share this with.
You whip out your phone, snapping a quick picture of yourself and the flowers to send to your old mentor.
"Doesn't it look pretty?" You type. As you patiently wait for his reply, you stroll down the sidewalk, occasionally getting stopped to take a few photos with some fans.
Just as soon as you were finishing up, your phone rings. You smile.
"You could always just text back, Torino." You joke.
"You're too busy taking photos when you should've keeping your eyes on villains!"
The eyes of your fans widen as you gently hushed the old man.
"I am too. I just wanted you to see the Cherry Blossoms."
"I see them outside my window everyday, Y/N. I don't need you to send me pictures."
You huff, waving goodbye as you continued your patrol. Leaning on your phone, you searched your bag for the news you wanted to share.
"Remember that girl I told you about?"
Even though he hated how much you were open to him, he couldn't deny you from telling. You were going to say it anyway whether he wanted to hear it or not.
But, he appreciated the sentiment.
"No, why?"
You sigh. "The one with the tattoos of snakes on her back and the wicked cool piercings?"
"Oh. Did something happen?"
"Uh huh." He could practically hear the excitement over the phone. Torino smirks, making way to the kitchen to get his tea prepped for the long winded rant you had planned for him.
"She said she had feelings for me and I fucked it up. I ran. I just smiled and ran." You whine.
He stops, readjusting his phone.
"I haven't been picking up her calls or anything. I avoided her at the coffee shop she works at. I don't know why. Shes amazing, but the moment she said that-"
"You froze and retreated because you couldn't fathom the fact someone so wonderful liked you."
You pause.
"Yeah."
"Heard it all before."
"Aw c'mon Torino, a little help. I don't know what to do. My mom didn't have these talks with me and..."
You didn't finish the sentence, assuming he could already finish it. You stop by a brick wall, sliding down to your knees.
"What do I do?"
He sighs, resting his warming cup on the counter as he takes a seat on his couch.
"Start off small. A text to see her. A nice spot, maybe some street food. Something where there isn't much distract-"
"What if she doesn't want to talk to me anymore?"
To hear how meek your voice was across the line over some mundane thing like a girl brought him back to reality. You were a person under your costume. A person with very human problems, thoughts, wants and needs.
And because of your fast paced job, you've deprived yourself of basic human interaction. He clenches his jaw as he began to think.
"I just don't want her to think I hate her all because I'm being stupid and difficult."
"... You're not stupid. You're going through a very normal thing, Y/N. It's okay to be scared of falling in love. It's a very tedious thing with so many steps that seems to come up from nowhere."
You hum, smiling a bit at his words.
"She must be going through the same thing, huh? Two idiots just trying to figure it out."
You both snicker as you get to your feet.
"Take her to that food stand you showed me."
Your eyes grow wide at his compliment. (it was very rare for him to actually enjoy your very strange palette, so to hear him mention something you showed him brought you much joy.)
"I will. I-im gonna call her right now and ask her out for lunch."
"Idiot, you're on patrol! Wait til you're off for such silly things!"
You laugh. "I'll call you right back, okay?"
"You better so i know you're doing your job like I taught you."
"Mhm. Bye Torino and i- uh... Thank you for everything."
Then the phone clicks, leaving him alone. Gran Torino hated to admit it, but seeing you live your life was endearing.
But, the fact you included him with every detail. The need to constantly update him on patrol, on his day off, in his time in the offices...
It made him feel needed outside from his job.
So, now he waits for your face to appear on his phone to share the most exciting news in your eyes.
