cuz you and i - [Max Mayfield]

Still here

Belly somehow ended up sitting at the rightmost corner, next to Max, who was seated next to Lucas, Dustin on the passenger seat, as Steve drove them to wherever Max told him to. The five of them sat in an awkward silence.

“Kate Bush?” Max asked Belly handing her the walkman she left behind

“Y..yeah” Belly replied unsure of what she was supposed to say as she took the device from her hands “Be runnin up that hill, running up that road” Belly muttered rhythmically so no one except Max could hear her  

“It’s my favorite” she replied looking straight ahead as Belly nodded and the car came to a stop

“This better be fast, Mayfield” Steve said

“Twenty seconds” Max replied getting inside the house as Belly leaned back into her seat the stress clearly visible on her face

As the time was passing she was growing more and more worried about Max, she’s all alone, what if something happens? The worst case scenarios running through her mind

“It’s gonna be okay” Lucas tried to reassure the girl as she opened her eyes to look at him

“I hope” she said her voice cracking, she started anxiously tapping her foot waiting as she tried to block away her thought

She opened the door and got outside, leaning on the car’s door as if that’s gonna help at all, when suddenly she saw Max hurrying towards them , Belly made some space for the girl to enter and did so herself

“You’re okay” Belly said softly as she kept her hand on Max’s knee, hoping it’d bring some sort of comfort, she was right as Max’s breathing came back to normal and she leaned her head back

“Something happened, right?” Belly asked Max in a low voice “At your mother’s house I mean” 

“Nothing happened” Max replied and Belly understood what it meant, something did happen, Max isn’t gonna tell her

“I just want to tell you I am right here” Belly assured Max

They fell into silence again, but this time it was different from the previous one, this time it was weird, Max was visibly anxious, Belly’s hand on her knee who was just as worried

“Turn here” Max instructed as Steve did so and ended up in a cemetery
Max got out of the car as soon as it came to a stop and she hurried towards her destination as Belly got outside standing in the same position as she was before and just keeping an eye on Max

All of them were getting worried by the second, when belly decided it had been long enough, she closed the car door with a bang, and started walking towards the girl

“It’s been long enough” she said

“Belly, just give her time” Lucas said

“She’s had enough time” Belly continued to walk as Steve followed her

“Max, time to giddy up yeah?” Steve said as soon as the two reached where Max was

But Max didn't move, she stayed put where she was sitting, Belly moved to the front and put a hand on Max's shoulder to shake her, when she saw, Max's eyes white, she was in a trance like state just like what Eddie described happened to Chrissy

"Max" Belly said as she felt every organ in her body drop "Max, get up" Belly said, her voice louder as she began shaking Max's shoulder violently

“Max wake up” Steve clapped in front of Max’s face “Guys” he called Dustin and Lucas over as they sprinted

“Max, Max you gotta get outta here” “Max you hear me?” they all desperately tried to wake her up from this trance but it was to no avail  

“Max, please wake up” Belly said, her voice cracking as her hands started to shiver

“Call Nancy and Robin! Go get ‘em! Call Nancy and Robin now!” Steve yelled at Dustin

“Max! Please wake up! Max!” Belly whimpered tears flowing from her brown eyes as Dustin hurried towards the car

“Get outta there Max!” Belly helplessly continued calling Max as Dustin a while later came back with several tapes and Belly’s walkman

“What is this?” Lucas asked

“Her song! What’s her favorite song?” Dustin yelled dropping the tapes on the floor, as belly started to mindlessly rummage through them

“Why?” Lucas questioned

“Robin said that if she listens to her… it’s too much to explain right now. What’s her favorite song?” Dustin yelled again

“Here!” Belly said as she found that one tape of Kate Bush, she put the tape inside with her shaking hands, as she connected the headphones, Steve shoving them max’s ears as she hit play

“Max c’mon” they continued their desperate pleads “Max please wake up” they yelled

“Max we’re right here!” Belly shook her shoulder

Just then, Max started to levitate, despite the music, their desperate pleads, her arms going to her either sides as, they all stared at her in shock, Belly felt nothing but anxiety, rage, helplessness, she’s never felt all this at once

She just stared, just stared with tears running down her cheeks , hoping this was just some sort of dream, that it wasn’t actually happening, but it was, she was about to lose the girl she loves, without even getting the chance to tell her, that she still loves her

Suddenly Max’s eyes opened as she gasped, beginning to fall down, Belly just in time caught her and pulled her in from behind, max gasping for air, who hugged belly just as tight as the other girl was  Belly closed her eyes, breathing heavily as so did max

“Oh god, max” Belly breathed “I thought-” she shook her head, not breaking the hug

“I am still… I am still here” Max gasped as she broke the hug, turned around, hugged her again, it was a long hug, Belly sobbed into it, and without words it said everything the two needed to hear and say.
