George groaned as he sat on the top bunk, annoyed Dream had already took it. They were supposed to book a 3 room hotel, but they messed up and accidentally booked a 2 room one. They spoke to the receptionist and the best she could offer was a 2 bedroom, but one with a bunk bed. Sapnap claimed the single room, so it left Dream and George in a tiny room together.
"Why do you get the bottom bunk?" George groaned as Dream stepped out of the bathroom. Dream smirked and looked at how George's head was barely touching the ceiling.
"Because I'm taller than you." Dream made up some random excuse as he folded some clothes into a neat pile. George's jaw dropped in disbelief at the poor excuse.
"That makes no sense." George scoffed, throwing himself down so he was facing the wall with the blankets thrown over himself. Dream decided to just let him sulk as he knew George would ramble on about how he deserved the bottom bunk. He took one last look at George before turning the lights off and getting into bed.
George couldn't sleep no matter how hard he tried. He had been struggling with his sleep for a while now and had told Dream about it. Dream asked if there was anything he could do to help, but George couldn't think of anything so the restless nights continued. George knew he needed to find something that would help him sleep soon, but as of right now, he wanted to see if Dream was awake.
"Dream, are you awake?" George whispered very quietly as he didn't want to wake Sapnap up. He could tell Sapnap was asleep because the hotel room walls were super thin and he could hear Sapnap snoring away.
"Yeah, why?" Dream whispered just as quiet as George. There was a long moment of silence as George realized he didn't have anything to say to Dream. He just wanted to talk to him for the sake of talking to him. George loved talking to Dream, even if they weren't saying anything in particular, just random gibberish for example, George would still love it.
"What's keeping you up?" Dream broke the silence as he figured George wasn't going to. George didn't know why he couldn't sleep, he just couldn't. He'd toss and he'd turn but no matter how comfortable he was, he wouldn't be able to sleep. His eyelids would try and force themselves shut so he could sleep, but George still couldn't sleep.
"I just can't sleep. I'm super tired, but my brain won't let me sleep, and my mattress is uncomfortable." George groaned, rolling onto his other side so he was facing the wall furthest away from him. Dream decided to try and think of things that would normally help him sleep. Dream tried to think of things that helped him sleep in situations like that, but he couldn't think of anything George could try. It was late at night, they were both tired but couldn't sleep, what better time than to say something risky?
"You could sleep in here with me?" He said. George nearly passed out the second Dream finished his sentence. It was something he didn't expect, but somehow he also expected it deep down. George opened his mouth to say something, anything really but he couldn't. He wanted to say an answer, but he couldn't even splutter a "Yes." or "No." as it threw him off.
"D-Dream?" Was the only thing George managed to say. Dream felt the regret, but it was too late to turn back now as the tone of his voice defiantly indicated he was being dead serious. Dream shuffled closer to the wall so there would be space for George if he was coming down.
"There's room, we'd be a little close together though." He explained as if it wasn't obvious enough already. George's heart was pounding out of his chest, he felt like he was dreaming because he certainly didn't expect the conversation to drift into this.
"We can't." George whispered. Dream wasn't going to ask why or argue with it, so he just rolled back over to the middle of the bed and rested his head on his arm. George peeked down from the guardrail and saw a small empty space next to Dream, despite him laying in the middle.
"Okay, but if you want to you can just get in without asking." Dream yawned and closed his eyes, despite knowing it wouldn't make him fall asleep any easier. George stared at the ceiling and tried to calm himself down from the panic. He didn't know why he was panicking as Dream only offered something as simple as sharing a bed, but he was panicking nonetheless.
Roughly half an hour went by and George felt like he was going crazy. Ever since Dream made that offer George could've sworn his bed got more and more uncomfortable. The springs on the mattress poking at his shoulder blades, the pillow being too hot, the duvet folding inside the sheets, just everything was uncomfortable.
The mattress was driving George crazy the most. He didn't even know if it was the mattress or the thought he could get in bed with Dream whenever he wanted to. It was as if his brain was purposely tricking himself into thinking the mattress was uncomfortable so he could sleep with Dream. At this point he knew what he had to do because otherwise, he wouldn't get any rest.
With a long sigh, George grabbed his pillow and kicked the duvet off himself. He crawled over to the end of the bed where the ladder was, and walked down. Dream smiled and rolled over to face George, who stood in front of the bed while looking down at him while hugging his pillow."Yo-" Dream opened his mouth to say something but George stopped him.
"Don't even." George cut him off as he lifted the duvet out the way so he could get in. Dream shuffled away to the wall so George would have some space. After a while of George moving around to get comfortable, everything fell silent once again, Sapnap's snoring only to be heard. George faced the opposite way to Dream, but Dream knew why. He could tell George was flustered by the way he cut him off his sentence and by the way he wouldn't face him.
"You're on my side." George gently kicked Dream's leg away and huffed. Dream just scoffed and rolled his eyes, shuffling even closer to the wall so George could have some room.
"You're the one that got in my bed. If we're too close just get in your own bed." Dream groaned, rubbing his eyes to stop them from forcefully shutting.
"No, I like it but I want to be further away from the edge of the bed." George tried to scoot away from the edge of the bed but he couldn't for some reason. Dream knew what the problem was, George was too scared to get closer. It was pretty easy putting two and two together, as George was previously flustered by the fact they were sharing a bed.
Dream leaned forward to put an arm around George's torso. He pulled him away from the edge of the bed and close to his chest to the point where they were practically spooning. Dream lifted a corner of the duvet up and tucked George in so he wouldn't get cold.
"Better?" Dream asked, just to be met with silence. George swallowed thickly and put a hand on top of Dream's hand, that was still wrapped around his torso. He turned it over and slowly interlocked his hand with Dream. If Dream made a risk by offering to share a bed, he was going to make a risk by interlocking their hands.
"Yeah." George said, gently squeezing Dream's hand as he rubbed circles on his knuckles.
"Goodnight, George. I love you." Dream said it every single night but it felt different this time. Maybe it was the fact that they were spooning, but it felt like it meant so much more. It felt like it had a genuine meaning behind it, like he truly did love him. George didn't want to get his hopes too high up, so he brushed it off as a normal thing he regularly said.
"Goodnight, Dream...I love you too."
"I'll tell you something tomorrow." It was obvious to both of them it was going to be a confession, but as of right now, they were going to just take in the moment and hopefully fall asleep. It didn't take long for George to fall asleep, which made Dream smile as he hoped they could do it more often.
Maybe, just maybe, sharing a bed with Dream while spooning helped him sleep.
