"Guys can we please get serious about this?" Luke complained. "We finished our first song over three weeks ago. I thought we'd have another one by now."
"Chill Luke. These things take time and it's a bit more difficult when we don't have a drummer." Calum told him. Luke frowned. The band had been trying desperately to find the right drummer for them but so far, no such luck.
They had lost count of how many people they had talked to and listened too or asked around about. There were too many faces and names but none of them were right for their band. Some of them they didn't get along with or didn't have enough chemistry with them. Other times it was just awkward playing with them.
"Michael." Luke said snapping his fingers at him.
"Yeah I'm paying attention." He murmured, glancing towards his friends.
"What's up with you?" Luke asked. Michael bit his lip and didn't reply. Honestly, he was thinking about Leia and he wasn't going to tell Luke that, though he probably already knew. He was just remembering how they had drank beer in the treehouse just two nights ago.
He wondered if she had talked to Luke about how she felt about their dad being gone. As far as Michael could tell, Luke didn't have the same abandonment issues Leia had. Maybe he just didn't care or maybe he hid them very well.
All Michael could think about was telling Luke about how Leia felt but he knew she would get angry at him. He wondered if it would be worth it in the long run. Maybe she would get some closure and stop hanging out with Ashton. Michael could only hope right?
"Then what did I say?" Luke asked.
"You were complaining about how we didn't have another song already." Michael replied, rolling his eyes.
"Well it's a big issue for me!" He exclaimed. Calum started laughing.
"Well tell us what you want to start on next." He offered, still smiling. Luke began paging through his notebook.
"Well uhh.. I started the chorus of this song, Unpredictable." He stopped, glancing up at them. "Want to hear it?" He asked slowly, a bit shyly. Calum motioned for him to go for it. "Okay well it goes like 'Pick you up if you fall to pieces. Let me be the one to save you. Break the plans we had before. Let's be unpredictable.' What do you think?" Luke asked anxiously.
"I think you need a couple of lines before it." Calum replied as he strummed his bass guitar idly.
"Like what?" Luke questioned, staring down at the lyrics.
"I think it's in your notebook, hand it over." Luke reluctantly passed it over to Calum. He always felt weird when other people handled it or when he didn't have it nearby. Calum flipped through the pages before stopping somewhere at the beginning of the book. "Yeah, see here." Calum turned it around and showed Luke and then Michael. It read,
Hey we're taking on the world.
"I like that. Put I'll take you where you want to go after it." Michael said.
"Oh my god that's perfect." Luke cried out grabbing the book and writing the lyrics down. They were talking about the first verse when someone knocked on the door.
"I'll get it." Michael said, standing up. Neither Luke nor Calum answered, they were too engrossed in the song they see writing. Michael pushed his hair back out of his face as he opened the door. He was surprised to find Ashton who looked rather annoyed to see that he had opened the door.
"What are you doing here? Don't you live down there?" Ashton demanded, thumbing behind him at Michael's house.
"Luke lives here too jackass and Leia's not home. She's out with their mom." Ashton cursed under his breath.
