Edited By: Yours Truley! :)"Uh, remind me again why I have to do this?" Michael whined. Leia was currently going through his closet yet again to find another outfit for his date with Alyssa. He didn't quite understand why he had to do this, but then again, he would do just about anything to make Leia happy. Michael couldn't just tell her that it was her that he truly wanted, it would ruin their friendship and either way, she probably didn't even think of him that way. Michael was just Leia's best friend in her eyes. That's all he'd ever been to her and it was all he would ever be.
Leia turned around and stared at him. "Michael, please. Do this for me, please? Make me happy." She walked toward her best friend and took his hand, intertwining their fingers. Why, oh why did she have to do that? Little gestures like this would sometimes make Michael wonder if she actually knew. Or maybe, just maybe, she did it just because she...
Yeah there was no way to get out of it now. Luke was right, Michael was a goner. "Okay" he sighed. Leia immediately smiled and pulled him into a huge bear hug.
"Thank you so much, Michael! I promise you, She won't let you down." But Michael already knew it wouldn't end well.
She went back to rummaging through his closet to find an outfit. She finally pulled out a black leather jacket, ripped skinny jeans, and a band shirt. "Isn't this sorta like what you said you didn't want me to wear last time?" Michael asked with a giant grin, raising his eyebrows.
"Oh forget it, Mr. Solo! You have nothing better to wear." Leia threw the clothes at him. "Just get changed and do what guys do to get ready. You don't want to be late to your date with Alyssa." Michael arched an eyebrow at her.
"Do what guys do to get ready?" He asked, shifting the clothes around in his hands. Leia rolled her eyes. Michael smiled wider.
"Just get ready." She repeated turning around, blonde hair flying. She closed his bedroom door, leaving Michael to change.
Michael was ready, he just wasn't sure if he could go through with this. "Are you sure that there is no way out of this?"
"Michael Gordon Clifford! Go, now!" Leia command, pointing at his truck with a cross look on her face.
"Okay, Okay. I'm going, I'm going!" He knew she was serious when she used his middle name, she never did that.
He drove to Alyssa's house, alone, and knocked on her front door, alone. As soon as she came out, they got into Michael's truck and went to the movies. Alyssa tried to talk to Michael in the car, but he would pretend he couldn't hear her over the music. Eventually, she stopped trying. Michael was doing this for Leia, just for Leia. Not for himself, not for Alyssa just for Leia. The girl he actually liked.
Since Michael just wanted to get it over with, he didn't care if Alyssa picked the movie, but it was not such an easy task for Alyssa who didn't know what he would like. "What movie do you want to watch?" Alyssa asked tetivley. Michael glanced around at the plaza. His eyes darted back and forth between the light seeping from the ticket counter and the burger shop across the way. Was he hungry? Or bored?
"I don't know, whichever I guess." Michael answered a bit bitterly. Alyssa frowned, confused and hurt. He was the one who agreed to this. She merely asked. Alyssa swallowed hard and choose the movie. Michael paid for both tickets, even though Alyssa had her money out. He simply slapped down a twenty and didn't wait for change. Alyssa grabbed the tickets and the change before rushing after him. Michael held the door open for her.
"Thank you." Alyssa said lightly. "Do you want some thing to eat? Popcorn?" Michael shrugged and looked at everything except her. What was his deal? Why wouldn't he look at her? Was he just nervous? That had to be what it was. "I'll get us some popcorn." Alyssa said, stepping into line.
After a few more grunts from Michael, they eventually walked into their theater. They didn't talk and neither Michael nor Alyssa dared to try to start a conversation. So far, the night was a disaster for Alyssa but a major success on Michael's part. In fact, for Michael, it was going better than expected. Alyssa didn't seem to want to talk as much as he did. That was a good thing. He wouldn't know what to say anyways
The movie didn't last long, maybe about an hour and a half. All they did was pass around the popcorn and stare at the huge screen. Since it wasn't even a scary movie, Alyssa had no excuse to cuddle with Michael, which again was no problem for him but it was some sort of romantic comedy. He was fine with those usually because Leia always dragged him to them but now she was probably dragging Ashton to them. The thought upset him.
The movie ended. Standing up, they left the theater in silence. It was almost deafening. They got into the car quietly. Not a single word was said the entire walk back. Alyssa was hoping Michael would break the ice but the look on his face told her otherwise. His jaw was set and his eyes fixated on the point ahead, his truck. He just wanted to get this over with. Alyssa felt a gut wrenching tug in her stomach. She tried to ignore it.
Michael started the engine and they drove in silence until Alyssa couldn't take it anymore. She decided to break the ice. "Michael, please talk. You've done nothing but grumble all night. Did I do something wrong? Because I swear whatever it was, I didn't mean it in any wrong way!" Michael turned to look at her sharply. She thought she did something wrong? The look on her face confirmed it. Alyssa looked like she might burst into tears. Michael ground his teeth. How had he not noticed? He just figured she was quiet, like him. He was too consumed with Leia to think about Alyssa.
Michael felt bad, he hadn't meant to screw up her night. He truthfully just didn't want to be there, he wouldn't have even agreed if it weren't for Leia. Leia was always the exception.
"Shit. Alyssa, I'm sorry if I screwed up your night. Don't worry, you didn't do anything wrong." Michael paused, choosing his words carefully. "It's just that I've been going through some things and it has been a little hard on me." Michael pulled into her driveway at that moment. He cut the engine and glanced at Alyssa. She was staring at her lap, lips pursed. Michael true not to sigh as he got out of the car and opened her door. Luke's nagging voice about being a gentleman was doing a voiceover in his head.
"Well, if it's any constellation we can still save the night." Alyssa said hopefully, eyes lighting up as she stepped out of the truck. Michael frowned as he closed the door. Save the night? The night was over. There was nothing left to save.
"How is that?" Michael asked because he truly didn't know.
"Like this" Alyssa murmured. The next thing Michael knew, Alyssa was leaning in and her lips were on his. He knew that it was Leia that he wanted, but maybe since Alyssa and Leia were so alike maybe he could trick his brain into confusing them. Maybe he could make them turn into one. He could pretend he was kissing Leia, not Alyssa. He could never do that though, no matter how hard he tried to pretend. Kissing Alyssa would never compare to kissing Leia. But he needed to forget Leia right now, she might never come around.
So, Michael kissed her back.
