3rd person's POV
It's been a month since Haerin starts working with Heesoo. It's also been a month since Heesoo starts stopping criminals from doing their job.
People have been very excited by the fact that there might be another superhero among them. Story, music, and ideas are poured by people. Not only from South Korea but all around the world. Heesoo sounds like a celebrity name right now.
At first, that's what Haerin thinking about. She can't give the same amount of compensation to Heesoo. What does the hero need? Although Haerin gives her a new mask and new outfits, the hero doesn't use them. She appears to be the same, but with different hoodies and jeans.
It feels like she's the only one who benefited from the collaboration. In comparison, Haerin's doing well in her job.
Haerin doesn't visit the building at night anymore, just like she promised to Heesoo, but the hero often stops by Minji's house to see Haerin after her fight –mostly because Minji buys her something good.
That night is not any different from other nights, Heesoo visits Haerin, but this time, she gets in through the window. Haerin is surprised by the hero's appearance, it's very concerning.
"Omg, what happened to you?"
Her right hoodie sleeve is burnt so that Haerin can see her forearm, while the left one is not as bad as the opposite. Her hands tremble so much that Haerin has to hold them.
"I- I'm okay. Just a rough fight"
Haerin scans the hand and finds some fresh wounds, "You aren't okay at all. Wait here, I'll treat it"
She is about to run toward the first floor to get the kit, but gets stopped by Heesoo's statement, "I love you"
Haerin can't even believe her ear. She blinks her eyes a few times. Still not being able to look back. It's clearly too sudden and forced. However, how long she's going to make Heesoo keep waiting? She stops her pace and looks back at Heesoo, "What did you say?"
Haerin really tries to make it like she doesn't hear them completely. Because she wants Heesoo's confirmation. However, Heesoo doesn't look at her again. She diverts her eyes somewhere.
"I- I don't want to be a burden. You should rest. I come here to tell you that I need a day off, so you might not be able to contact me tomorrow. I'm sorry for being a troublesome person. Good night"
Haerin doesn't even have the chance to say good night. Heesoo is already gone, becoming one with the night sky.
How does Haerin sleep after hearing that? She always thinks of Heesoo as her colleague, nothing more. However, she's relieved when Heesoo didn't repeat it when she asked her to. Because she wouldn't be able to answer.
Now, Haerin feels bad. It's dangerous enough to fight the villain at night, but now Heesoo has to fight at the noon too. It's all because of her. 'What have I done?'
On the next day, it's just like what Heesoo has said, she can't be contacted, Haerin guesses that the latter is resting.
The picture of yesterday night comes back. With that injuries... Haerin sighs.
Should she visit the building at night?
Haerin bites her lip, frustrated by her lack of choices. She ends up spending doing her job half-heartedly.
In the end, she decides to go to that building.
-
It's like her first time. Full of excitement but uneasiness at the same time. Her way to the upper floor goes smoothly. There is no sound whatsoever, it's like a battle doesn't even happen to begin with.
She opens the door and finds the lonely hero sitting at the edge of the building.
"No battle today?"
Heesoo doesn't jump in surprise, as if she's already known that Haerin will visit her.
"Hey, about yesterday..." Haerin thinks that Heesoo is going to finish her sentence, but she leaves her hanging. Without completing, she knows what the hero means.
"Can you forget about that?" Heesoo knows that she heard them loud and clear, there's no reason to elude.
"Why? I'm okay with it. We can start slowly" Haerin tries to console the taller girl.
"We can't"
"Why?"
"Just can't"
"Why?"
Haerin keeps saying why. She doesn't even know why she does it. She's curious. Somehow that sounds typically like her. Without a specific reason, Haerin won't accept any answer.
Heesoo isn't having it. She has no reason. She just can't. Heesoo is about to run away, but Haerin stops her, "You told me that you love me!"
Hearing that makes Heesoo sighs.
"I imagine every world as a set of puzzles, bound to create its own masterpiece when it's solved, but what will happen if you find a piece of another set after finishing your work? You can't possibly trade it with the others. Because it won't fit. No matter how many times you try, you just have to know that I don't belong here. I know my place, so I won't intervene with any of it"
Haerin wants to say that she's not from there as well, but then what? Forget her main purpose of coming here? Let someone knows about her past and weakness when she's just a mere human?
Hesitation.
That's what holds all of us to do something else. We choose to play safe. Like someone in a science olympiad. The correctness will give you 2 points, inaccuracy minus 1, and 0 for not answering. When there's only uncertainty in your mind. Most people will leave the answers empty.
Haerin is definitely one of them. She has taken so many risks, but now it doesn't seem to be worth it to her. She hates this side of her.
Undecisive.
Looking at Haerin who doesn't even budge after hearing her explanation, Heesoo sighs, feeling defeated. She's scared. She wasn't able to protect her lover before, how could she ready herself to take a new risk?
"It's dangerous to be around me. You shouldn't be like this"
Heesoo offers her hand, "Let me take you home"
