Haerin never knows that talking can be this easy. Just approach the person and... have a conversation. Minji brings Haerin to the cafe just as she promised.
It's not Haerin's intention to start it, but to hear Y/n's conversation with one of the other staff about the difficult homework –derivative and how to apply it in business.
Minji offers to help her, by lending Haerin's time. Haerin stares into Minji's eyes, waiting for an explanation. However, Minji is taking out her phone and pretends as if there's an incoming call when it's obviously not.
Minji excuses herself to attend the 'sudden meeting', leaving Haerin alone in front of the cashier.
Haerin has the urge to say sorry and immediately dash out of the cafe, but Y/n's voice stops her from doing so, "Thank you for the offer. I'm really having difficulty understanding the subject and I can't afford to have another tutor" Y/n says awkwardly while scratching the back of her head. Yeah, if she can afford one, she won't accept a stranger's offer.
Of course, Haerin isn't able to reject that request.
Y/n's shift has over. She comes to sit with Haerin, at the same table, she and Heesoo sat at during their interview. The music fills the cafe, giving a relaxed ambiance.
"You must like this seat. You always sit on here whenever you come" Y/n says while preparing the books.
"Oh, you notice?"
"Of course, you come almost every day. It's impossible to not realize" Looking at Y/n's grin, Haerin feels like she's at that house, Y/n's farmhouse, where she used to visit when she was in her original world.
How come Haerin finds no difference between the 2 Y/ns? It somehow increases Haerin's greed. She wants to take this Y/n for herself, support, and accommodate the younger girl. The true meaning of starting new is between her and Y/n.
Haerin shakes her head, refusing to swim deeper into that idea. 'Let's not think about it now' she thinks.
As expected, it's not hard for Haerin to quickly understands the theory. It's almost the same as what she has learned in her own world.
"Marginal cost is equal to the derivative of the total cost. The same goes for the marginal revenue. When we're talking about profit maximization, marginal revenue is equal to marginal cost. In managerial finance, we maximize stockholders' well-being and not the firm's profit, because profit doesn't consider the time value of money, cash flows, and risks. Up to now, can you follow me?" the way Haerin explains reminds Y/n of her lecturer.
Y/n thinks the theory won't be much of a help when you're working, then why the girl in front of her seems to understand everything? Isn't her age much different from hers?
"Yeah, I think I can manage" That's the only reply Y/n can give.
"I will continue then. Now, imagine there are 2 kinds of investments, Ditto and GMO. Ditto's earnings per share in 3 years in a row are $1,4; $1; and $0,4. That will be $2,8 in total. While GMO's, they are $0,6; $1; and $1,4 in the last year. If you sum it, you'll find $3"
Y/n just writes anything Haerin says. Whether she understood or not, she will leave it to her brain later.
"In terms of profit maximization, GMO will be chosen, because its total earning is higher than Ditto's. However, in terms of the share price maximization goal, Ditto will be the chosen one, because they manage to achieve $1,4 during the first year while GMO in the third year. The current value of a dollar is higher than the future value. That's what we called by the time value of money"
"Hmm" Y/n keeps nodding her head. She's somewhere between not understanding and giving-up state. It's a relief that the learning materials end there.
Y/n is really thankful for the older girl, because of her, she has so many references to study, and her explanation helps her understand better than the lecturer assistant. She reminds herself to study better, so she won't ask for the latter's help again.
As a reward, Haerin treats Y/n with any beverages she wants and Y/n can't help but think, 'Aren't I supposed to be the one who buys her something?'
"Once again, thank you for teaching me" Y/n grasps Haerin's right hand, passing a scrap of paper deliberately. "I don't know how to thank you, so...."
Haerin opens the paper, 'Free 1 avocado latte from Y/n' with a P.S. below, 'use it during Y/n's shift' written on it.
"Please use it well," Y/n says. She then excuses herself to go home, which Haerin is about to do as well, but before leaving the cafe, she turns on her smartphone, updating any news that happened during her free time. Because she knows that she won't open it on her way home.
She reads Minji's message wishing her good luck from before. Haerin snickers toward the message, how can she abandon her like that?
Then she opens her chat with one of her colleagues. She's been asked whether she has known the news or not, that there's a building near her office caught fire. Haerin clicks the link sent by her friend.
It's relieving to know there are no casualties, but a mention of the hero gets Haerin really surprised. The moment when Heesoo came to her house, injured. Anyone would have known it was caused by fire. Logically speaking, the hero won't be able to use her spider webs. Not to mention, her body may not be able to stand the heat because of spider nature itself.
Haerin comes rushing out of the cafe, especially after one of the statements saying Heesoo falls from the fifth floor back first, holding a smaller girl. Abnormally, the hero stands back on her feet, avoiding the people around them. No one knows where the girl is going, but Haerin knows, that's why she goes there.
