Thad's eyes felt heavy as he struggled to keep them open. The warmth of the classroom and the droning of the teacher's voice were lulling him into a peaceful slumber. He tried to focus on the lecture, but his mind kept drifting off into dreamland.
"Thad!" the teacher's voice boomed, jolting him awake. Thad's head jerked up and he rubbed his visor, trying to shake off the grogginess. "Are you paying attention?" The teacher asked sternly, her voice laced with annoyance.
Thad muttered an apology, feeling embarrassed and guilty for dozing off. He tried to catch up on what he had missed, but his mind was still fuzzy. The teacher continued with the lesson, her voice echoing in Thad's sensors.
But Thad's exhaustion got the better of him again, and soon he was nodding off once more. This time, the teacher didn't bother calling his name. Instead, she walked over to his desk and slammed her hand on the surface, making Thad jump in his seat.
"Thad, I won't tolerate sleeping in my class," she scolded. "You're disrupting the lesson and wasting everyone's time. You're staying after school for detention today."
Thad felt his face flush with shame. He had never been given detention before, and the thought of staying after school was daunting. He tried to plead with the teacher, but she was having none of it.
The rest of the class passed by slowly, with Thad feeling like a prisoner in his own seat. When the bell finally rang, he gathered his belongings and made his way to the teacher's desk, where she was waiting for him with a stern expression.
"Detention starts now," she said, gesturing for Thad to follow her out of the classroom. Thad sighed, resigning himself to the punishment. He knew he had brought it upon himself by not staying alert during class. As he trudged behind the teacher, Thad made a mental note to never fall asleep in class again.
Thad sat in detention, staring blankly at the wall in front of him. His mind was still reeling from the shock of his teacher calling him out for sleeping in class. But as he sat there, his thoughts drifted to something much more pressing: the death of his father at the hands of a robot vampire named N, who Thad had thought was his friend.
N had been a part of Thad's life for several months now, a seemingly benevolent robot that had helped his friend Uzi. But one fateful night, after finding out the cause of his father's death Thad couldn't look at N the same way again.
Tomorrow was the funeral, after a month of planning and preparations. Thad knew that he had to be strong for his family, but he couldn't shake off the sense of sadness and anger that had engulfed him. He wondered how he was going to make it through the day without breaking down.
As the minutes ticked by in detention, Thad's mind wandered back to memories of his father. He thought about the times they had spent together, and the things they had enjoyed doing. Thad felt a sense of injustice as he remembered how his father's life had been cut short by N's betrayal.
Thad realized that he had to find a way to cope with the loss and seek justice for his father. He knew that it was going to be a difficult journey, but he was determined to make sure that N would never hurt anyone again. Thad decided that he would use the funeral as a way to honor his father's memory and show N that he wouldn't get away with what he had done.
As the bell rang, signaling the end of detention, Thad stood up and gathered his things. He took a deep breath and left the classroom, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. As he walked down the hallway, Thad felt a sense of determination wash over him, knowing that he would do whatever it takes to make sure that his father's death was not in vain.
Thad walked down the halls with a forced smile on his face, trying his best to put on a cheerful facade. He knew that he had to be strong for his family and friends, but the weight of his father's death was still heavy on his heart.
