1.03 Being a Mermaid Hurts

Jamie awoke to the sun shining, in her eyes. She rose from her sleeping bag to find a crab next to her.

"Shoo!" She flicked her hands to make it move.

Her plan worked. The crab scurried away as Jamie stood up. Everyone else was sleeping. She walked towards the water. The waves crashed against the sand. She felt the cool water against her feet. It was refreshing to her hard night last night. She felt something abnormal. Sparkles started to swirl around her, all around her body. She looked around and breathed. Her legs felt like weren't there. Before she knew it, she fell over. It made a loud thump. She looked at her feet. They weren't there. They were replaced by a huge, scaly, golden tail.

"What the he-" She screamed but cut off to hear a gasp from behind.

She jerked her head to find Luke, standing up straight.

"Um, I'm as clueless as you are," she spoke to him as he ran and kneeled down next to her.

He looked at the tail then back at her, "This isn't scientifically possible."

Jamie rolled her eyes, "Really?"

Luke wondered with his words, "How did this happen?"

"Hello, I'm clueless, remember?" Jamie reminded him.

Luke talked, "Well you weren't a mermaid yesterday."

"How do get back to not being a mermaid, genius?" Jamie nodded her head.

Luke stayed silent for a moment. Jamie rolled her eyes once more because she was getting annoyed.

Jamie pounded the sand, "Come on! You're a scientist! You do this stuff all the time."

"So you walked into the water and then poof! Tail right?" Luke questioned.

She nodded in response.

He continued, "So if we are doing reverse psychology, wetness=tail so..."

"Dryness=legs, you are a genius, Luke," She smiled, "Hand me that towel."

"So you are telling me that you turned into half of a fish because you touched water?" Kate folded her arms.

Jamie nodded as Avery spoke in response, "I think it had something to do with that pool."

"What pool?" Luke yelled out a question.

"Quiet, Sherlock," Jamie sighed at Luke.

Kate explained to Luke, "You know how we came back late last night and we woke you up? And we were wet. We said we went through a river while searching for fire wood?"

Luke jerked his head up and down.

She continued to explain, "We lied. All three of us were searching for fire wood. I started to walk across these rocks and fell through a hole. Avery and Jamie fell through after me. We found this pool. It was magnificent. With a hole at the top of it, probably the volcano. I found an opening in the pool, a way out due to the rocks were too steep. So we dove in and the full moon came over. These bubbles just started to bubble in the water and sparkles came up to the full moon and came back down."

Luke belonged, "That isn't scie-"

"Well it happened!" Jamie interrupted.

"Should we see if you guys react?" Luke asked Avery and Kate.

Avery tried to get him out of it, "But my hair....it took me forever to-"

Before she could finish her sentence, water flew onto Kate and Avery. Jamie heard Luke, counting to himself.

Right when Luke said the huge one O, Avery and Kate stood up with golden, scaly tails for only a second before flopping down to the sand. The same appearance as Jamie's. Jamie and Luke exchanged eye contact for a moment and then darted towards the two mermaids.

"Ouch!" Kate sat out after she took a smack to the head.

Avery sat up, "So now you could call me The Little Mermaid."

"Ariel you mean?" Jamie corrected.

Avery nodded, "Well I had this dream when I was little. To be a mermaid."

Kate asked, "Now how do we get back to I don't know, uh normal?"

"Dry yourself off," Luke threw a towel at Kate.

As Kate started to dry, Jamie threw a towel to Avery. After sliding the towel back and forth against their new found tails, Avery and Kate stood up on their feet once again.

"You cannot tell anyone," Kate pointed at Luke.

Luke held up his hands, "Hey! I'm not that dumb. Letting my best friends be experimented and be in a zoo. Come see the mermaids!"

"Now we should be getting home," Jamie suggested, "Our parents will be expecting us soon.

The gang nodded and gathered up their supplies.
