"like i've said time and time again, there is nothing going on between us," you say in an annoyed voice. daryl narrowed his eyes at you, accusing you of doing something outrageous. after all the survivors were pulled from woodbury, daryl's had been rather clingy and over protective of you.

watching someone you held so dear start a pointless argument over something like this made your heartache. seeing that he didn't believe the words coming from your mouth, you had no choice but to let him believe what he wanted to.

this all started when you offered to train the newbies with various weapons of their choice, so the clueless civilians would know how to fend for themselves. once you agreed to help them out there was one of the guys that you grew close to, not as a romantic partner, just as a friend. though that's all that was happening between the two of you, daryl refused to believe that.

no matter how many times you attempted to reason with him, he always went back to his wrongful accusations. "mhm, i guess that's why you've been secretly meetin' up with him too huh?" he raised his voice. it pained that even the thought of you cheating would even cross his mind saddened you.

"oh fuck you daryl," you say, gritting your teeth together as you turned your back to him. you hated fighting, but you disliked bickering with someone you cared so much about. tears swelled up on your bottom eyelid as you walked away, not wanting to argue any longer.

"you never loved me did ya? there was no other option so you just-" "i love you asshole, it will always be you!" you turned and faced him, tears streaming down your rosy cheeks as you attempt to wipe them away with the back of your sleeve. an arrow pierced through your heart as those words left his mouth.

you loved him, you loved him more than anything else in this world. he was the reason you keep on going, the sole reason you aren't dead now was because of him. back when the cdc exploded, you wanted to die, blown to pieces like the others who died in the massive blast. but daryl talked you out of it, he gave you a reason to keep on going.

"i will never love someone as much as i love you," you said weakly. suddenly you felt the touch of another person. he embraced you in his teddy bear like arms, wrapping them around your body as you buried your face into his chest.

though he acted tough on the outside, like nothing made his heart warm to the touch, you knew him. he was much more than a stubborn redneck who used a crossbow. he was daryl, the kind thoughtful guy you had always cared for and loved.

who knew you'd manage to find love in this world? he rubbed his hands in circles on your back, trying to calm you down. he sat you on the prison bed and continued to draw make believe circles on the back of your shirt.

a few minutes went by and you started to calm down a bit. you backed away from daryl and wiped the tears out of your shimmering orbs. there was a moment of silence that washed over you like a wave. "i promise nothing is going on between me and him. besides he doesn't even like girls..."

those words coming out of your mouth felt like sharp blades. you weren't supposed to tell, it was your little secret that he and you shared. but you saw no other way than to tell daryl, there seemed to be no way around it.

"he likes you, so if anyone should be worried about the other cheating it should be me," you said in a hushed voice, keeping your eyes shamefully glued to the ground as you spoke. his rough hand traveled under your jaw, tilting your head upwards slightly.

before you had time to react, his lips were pressed against yours. your eyes comically widened at the gentle touch of his lips. you took in the sweet moment before he pulled away. though it was just a small peck on the lips, it meant more to you. it meant he believed you.

"i'm sorry (y/n)," he said in a barely audible whisper, it was unusual for him to apologize. he wasn't the type of person to say he was in the wrong about something. but then again, he loved you and didn't want to see you leave him.
