carl and some members from his survivor group left the safety of alexandra and headed off into the dense maze of trees. you watch carefully from behind a tall oak, your orbs following their every move. they fanned out and made their way deeper into the forest, killing any walker they came across on sight.

you felt sick to your stomach as they approached the tree you hid behind. you wanted to run, but what good would that do now, they would catch you. so you did what your gut told you and stayed put, your back pressed firmly against the trunk of the tree. your body nervously shook making it hard to stay still.

there footsteps grew closer with each passing moment, you held your breath as your heart practically thumped out of your chest. you became fearful that they might hear the rapid thumping of your heartbeat if they got close enough. one made their way into your line of sight, another, and another.

then there was the last boy that made you weirdly feel a sense of safety. though he held a gun in his hands you weren't the least bit scared of him. your foot moved an inch as you tried to make your way around the large oak so you were no longer out in the open. that was until you heard it, a twig beneath your feet snapped.

with no other option, you hurried behind the tree and prayed they didn't hear it. your heart had to be beating a mile a minute as the sounds of footsteps approached. you wanted to scream, you wanted to run away, but you couldn't, not without getting a bullet straight through the cranium.

your breath hitched when the sounds of leaves crunching came to an abrupt stop. there was no question about it, they had found you. there was a hand placed on your shoulder that made you jump. you turn to see who it was, and that was when you saw the brunette boy with his finger to his lips.

the moment you realized it was him your body started to calm down from its frantic state. his vision kept panning back in forth from you to where the rest of his group was. the boy let out a sigh and dropped his finger from his lips. "it's alright, they're gone." those few words were like music to your ears.

"that was way too close, what if they caught me?" you asked with tears shimmering in your eye. it was no secret that you were scared, scared of what they might do to you if they ever did catch you. you felt comforted when his arms snaked their way around your body, embracing you as you calmed yourself down once again.

there was something about carl, maybe he pitied you since the two of you were relatively the same age, or maybe he was just looking to help someone in need. but he was different, it's like this world never even fazed him. there was this warm feeling that emerged whenever he came to visit, you liked the company since it gets lonely with no one else to talk to.

he breaks the hug and swings the black backpack off his back. he unzipped the zipper and revealed some food and beverages inside. "i know it's not much, but it's all i could get my hands on." the way he said it made it sound like he owed you this meal. this was out of the kindness of his heart, not just scraps but actually food.

after starving for most of the apocalypse this was more than enough. "don't say that, it's more than i could've asked for, thank you." you say with a grateful smile on your lips. there was a part of you that started to like the boy who brought you food. like a lost mutt, if you feed it for long enough it's bound to follow wherever you go.

but this was more than just the routine i liked you because you give me food. no, for some reason it felt like more than that. you liked him as a person, you liked how kind his heart was for such an unforgiving world. he wasn't like anyone else you had come across before, he was the opposite.

"It's no problem," he says, though it wasn't a big deal to him, it was for you. you rested your gaze on his baby blue orb and took a second to work up the courage. you leaned forwards and place a small kiss on his lips. he didn't push you away or ran like you thought, instead he kissed back.

you felt yourself melting into the small gesture before breaking off. the feeling of his lips pressed against yours lingered a while after. no words were spoken for the longest time, it was like neither of you had the courage to speak. before long there was a voice from off in the distance.

"carl!" it shouted and the brunette boy turned his head in that direction. he glanced back at you and placed a small peck on your forehead. "i'll be back tomorrow, promise." he reassured you with a soft smile. you gave a smile back and nodded your head as the boy took off running back into the maze of trees.
