"so this was your big secret?" you asked. looking out at the fields crammed full of the most beautiful flowers you had ever seen. they made the hill look like an art project with all the colors scattered all over the canvas. the petals of the various flowers were delicate as they all glowed their own unique shades of blue and red.

the meadow was full of life. flourishing trees and breathtaking blooming buds, it was all just perfect. so when glenn invited you here on such short notice you took up the opportunity when it presented itself. "surprised?" he asked, sitting on a red and white patterned blanket.

there was an assortment of foods ranging from
ripe watermelon that he got from the kingdom to fresh squeezed lemonade. you could see all the hard work that went into planning this small picnic. running miles across the state just to gather the right food. "i am." you say, still not sure why he asked you to come out here with only an hour's notice.

you took a seat next to him on the candy cane striped blanket. admiring the breathtaking view, not having seen such beauty in a while. you glanced over at him only to see his gaze fixated on you. "what, is there something on my face?" you asked. he shook his head. "it's nothing, it's just admiring the gorgeous view." he said with his usual goofy grin.

you giggled at his strange comment. you and glenn have been dating for a while now and he had never done anything like this before. lately, he's been seeming more distant and you feared he might have been losing interest. then out of thin air, he goes and plans this romantic dinner date.

"hey, you feeling alright? you seem like there's something on your mind?" you inquired, hoping he would tell you what was bothering him. "yeah, fine." glenn answered, but he seemed anxious when those words left his mouth. you could tell right away that something was wrong. the last time glenn was this nervous around you was the first time you met him.

the two of you snacked in silence, which wasn't like him. for the most part he kept to himself and so did you. once every few minutes you would catch a glimpse of his eyes on you before turning away. "sure you're alright?" you asked again, he seemed like he was being held at gunpoint with no other option than to prepare this meal for you.

"i told you, i'm okay," he said with a smile. the longer the evening went on the stranger he seemed. you wanted to ask him flat out and demand that he tells you what was wrong, but then again you didn't want to push him. so you sat there, watching as the big ball of gas made its descent over the horizon.

the lights protected warm variants of orange, red, and yellow across the sky. "the sunset is gorgeous isn't it?" you asked, laying back on the blanket to get a better view of the breathtaking colors. "yeah it sure is." he laid next to you. he seemed focused on the sun, watching carefully as it disappeared behind the flower hill.

once the sun was no longer visible he spoke up. "hey uhm, there is something that i wanted to ask you." he sat up with this nervous look on his face. was he going to break things off with you? is that why he took you out here and gave you this meal as a final farewell?

it made your heart ache just thinking about it. sure not everything was picture perfect at times, but regardless it seemed like the two of you had strong feelings for one another. you sat up with a cloud of sadness looming over you. thats why he's been so distant for the past few weeks.

"are you breaking up with me?" you inquired, sadness lacing your words as you kept your gaze glued on the green grass beneath you. "no- what no, why would you think that?" he asked to which you perked your head up. all the signs led there, is not that then what?

"i was actually gonna ask you." he reached for his back pocket and pulled out a plain black box. the box opened and inside was the most beautiful ring you had ever seen. the diamond shimmered effortlessly in the sun's rays. "to marry me." he said with that adorable smile on his face.

all this time you thought he was going to break your heart. now he was proposing to you with the ring of your dreams. "yes, yes i will marry you!" you say, leaning forwards and placing your lips on his. your heart felt warm, knowing now that you will spend forever together you wanted to remain by his side for all of eternity.
