from the moment your eyes met, you knew the feeling you had for him were strong. when the brunette first introduced himself to you, mickey, ron, and enid, you knew straight away he was different. though at the time you thought it was just the start of a good friendship, now it was more like torture.
no matter how much you wanted to push these feeling deep down inside you and never let them out again, you just couldn't. enid saw right through you from the very beginning, she always says how your eyes light up every time he walks in a room. she's the only person on earth who knew your little secret.
thats why she was the one to lean when you needed to get something off your chest. but this time was different, she called you over with a surefire plan that she guaranteed would not fail. "i dunno enid, do you really think this would work?" you asked, second guessing her foolproof plan.
you sat on the edge of her bed dressed in a fancy suit. stretching at the uncomfortable collar that was wrapped around your neck. "yes i'm sure, tonight is diana's welcome party and he's going to be there so we need you looking your best." she answered, slopping some type of jell like substance into your hair.
this wasn't something you'd usually wear to a formal event. normally you would just slap on a t-shirt and some sweatpants and call it good. and originally that was your plan, till you told enid about possibly asking carl out during tonight's event. she insisted on dressing you up for tonight and that's how you wound up with all these extra preparations.
she was persistent, making sure everything was undeniably perfect. it took a few hours for the two of you to get ready, but once she was satisfied with her work it was time. the hours flew by and before you knew it you were at the front door of the event looking as nervous as ever.
"don't worry (y/n), i'll be right there in case you need me." she gave you a reassuring pat on the shoulder. you took a deep breath and pushed open the door only to see the room packed with people. most of them you recognized, but others were fairly new. you glanced around the room, trying to find a familiar face.
enid tugged at the back of your shirt and gave you an eye glance to the left, and that's where your attention was drawn. and sure enough there he was, standing in the corner of the room looking as handsome as ever. you admired the outfit he wore it ended up fitting him perfectly.
you saw his ocean blue eyes peering back at you, only then did you realize you were staring. carl gave you a small smile and a wave. you glanced back at enid, before walking over to him. "dude, you really went all out on the outfit." he said with a chuckle.
"trust me, it wasn't my idea," you answered giving a side eye glance to the brunette girl observing you from afar. apparently you zoned out for a second because when you came too carl's hand was waving in front of your face. "earth to (y/n), dude are you alright?" he asked in a concerned tone.
"yeah, fine," you answered, snapping back into the moment. you watched as carl leaned his back against the wall and let out a sigh. his baby blue eyes peered forwards giving you the side view of his breathtakingly gorgeous face.
"this parties lame," he said, snapping you out of your thoughts. he looked over at you making you advert your gaze from his puppy dog eyes. "yeah, so lame." you agreed, staring down at the floor to not make any more awkward eye contact.
"wanna ditch it?" he asked. it took a second for his words to set in, he wants to leave here with you. your heart was beating out of your chest as you shot an uncertain glance in enid's direction... only to see she was no longer standing there. having no wingman to coach you through this, you went with your gut feeling.
"uhm- yeah, totally," you answered making carl's face light up. he grabbed your wrist and led you smoothly through the crowds of people, whilst you were more distracted by how close the two of you were to holding hands. he pushed open the back door that led out to a small garden.
the moonlight shined down on the various flowers that popped their heads from the muddy soil. the moon was big and perfectly circular in the night sky. carl came to an abrupt stop and released your arm from his grasp. "okay, what's wrong?" he asked out of the blue. "nothings wrong, why would you think that?" you inquired.
watching as the moon lit up his blue eyes, making them breathtaking to look at. "well first off i caught you weirdly staring at me, then you seemed to be zoning out while we were talking. and let's be real, i've seen you wear the same thing for days on end, you would never in a million years dress this good, so what's really going on?" carl asked, not leaving here without an answer to his question.
you blinked a few times, trying to find the right words. if enid was here she would know what to do, she would know exactly what to say. but enid wasn't here, it was just you and him alone on a cold moonlit night. you took a deep breath, figuring telling him would be like ripping off a bandaid.
"i like you- i've liked you for a while now and this seemed like the right time to tell you. i get it if you don't like me back but i really needed to tell you," you admitted shamefully getting all your bottled up feeling out into the open. just looking him in the eyes was hard to do after your confession.
you didn't want to know what he was thinking. was he grossed out that his friend would say such a weird thing? maybe he thought you were gross for having such feelings for another guy. whatever it was, you were afraid of what he had to say.
an awkward silence filled the air between the two of you. he was being too quiet, if he didn't feel the same it wouldn't be the end of you. but any words were better than none. finally, you worked up to courage to look at him but there was a strange feeling that made your eyes dart upwards.
a hand trailed under your chin, lifting your head slightly before placing a set of lips on yours. nothing was separating the two of you any longer. his lips pressed against yours and at that moment you kissed back. it took a moment for your brain to start working again, realizing that the guy you've had a crush on is kissing you.
your thoughts started racing a mile a minute, and for a second you could have sworn you had forgotten how to breathe. you were amazed by how soft his lips were as they rested against your own. he pulled back making sure you kept your eyes fixated on him.
"(y/n), i like you too." for a moment you mentally pinched yourself trying to make sure this whole thing wasn't just another dream. but the feeling of his lips on yours lingered even after the kiss broke. you were sure this wasn't a dream. a genuine smile tugged at the ends of your lips.
maybe it was because the moment couldn't have been more perfect, or the fact you were kissing the love of your life. but for some reason, you never wanted to go back to how it was ever again.
———
enid watched as you were dragged outside by carl. she couldn't help but let a soft smile consume her expression. no longer needing to watch from the sidelines since she knew exactly how everything was going to play out. how you may ask, it's because she set the whole thing up herself.
