Chapter 48: This Is What You Came For

The next day had come. Savannah met up with Charles and his wife Nicole at the coffee shop. As she arrived, Charles was sitting alone at a table. Savannah walked up to Charles. "Hey Charles!" "Savannah!" Charles stood up and hugged Savannah. "Look at chu! Ya lookin' good, girl!" "Thank you. And you! Forty one ya say? Wow! I know some 41 year olds who look damn near sixty! Whatever it is your doin', It's working." Charles blushed while smiling. "Thank you."

Savannah would look around the coffee shop. After looking around, she would turn her attention back towards Charles. "Where's Nicole?" "Oh, she's in the restroom." Savannah nodded. "Oh okay. You don't mind if I go order a coffee, do you? There's no line now...." Charles would shake his head. "Nah, go 'head!" "Thanks."

After Savannah was done ordering her coffee, she would comeback to the table that Charles was sitting at and take a seat. A few minutes later, Nicole would come out of the restroom and walk over to where Charles and Savannah were sitting. Charles and Savannah stood up in unison when they spotted Nicole. This would be Savannah's first time meeting Nicole. "Nicole, this is Savannah. Savannah, this is my wife Nicole." Savannah and Nicole shook hands. "Nice to meet you. Charles has told me all about you." Savannah nodded and smiled.

Before sitting down, she would take a glance at Nicole's pregnant stomach. "And congratulations!" "Oh thank you!" "How far along are you?" "Eight months." Savannah nodded. Just then, a barista would bring Savannah her coffee. Savannah kept conversing while adding cream and sugar to her coffee. "I'm sorry that I didn't make it to the wedding." Nicole nodded. "That's okay."

Savannah took a sip of her coffee. There was an awkward silence between the three. Charles would eventually break the ice. "So Savannah, I got some news." Savannah's eyebrows rose. "And what would that be?" "I'm going to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame." Savannah's eyes would widen. "Congratulations Charles!" Charles was smiling ear to ear. "Yeah I'll be flying to New York in a couple of weeks." Savannah nodded. "Cool. Well I wish you a safe flight." "Thank you Savannah."

Savannah looked down at the table while trying to think of something to say. She could feel Nicole's eyes coldly staring at her. Savannah looked at her watch. "Well would you look at the time. I have to get going. There's some things I need to take care of." Savannah stood up. Charles stood up as well. "Well it was nice seeing you." Savannah turned to Nicole who was still sitting down. "It was nice meeting you." Savannah and Nicole shook hands once again. Nicole nodded while having a fake smile on her face. "Same here." Charles and Savannah hugged. "Savannah, It really was nice seeing you again." Savannah nodded. "You too. You take care! And once again congrats on your induction!" "Thanks Savannah." "Bye!"

Savannah left the coffee shop and went straight home. Her cousin Bobbi was still in town. Bobbi was making a sandwich in the kitchen. She saw Savannah walk in and plop herself on the couch. Bobbi walked over to Savannah. "So how did it go?" Savannah sighed before responding. "That lady does not like me." "Who, the wife?" "Yes, the wife." "I'm not surprised. You are the ex-girlfriend. I wouldn't be too happy to see you either. Didn't you tell me that she's pregnant?" Savannah nodded. "Yes, she is." "There ya go! You come there dressed to the nines. And she's so pregnant, she can't even see her feet." Savannah shook her head. "I get what you're sayin'." "And on top of that, I know the hubby was checkin' you out. He had to be!" Savannah shrugged her shoulders. "I guess."

"Speaking of the hubby. How was he lookin'?" "He looked okay." "See right there, I know ya ass is lyin'!" Savannah started to smile. "Okay. He looked damn good!" Bobbi nodded with a smirk on her face. "Uh huh!" "Charles grew his hair back out again." Bobbi's eyebrows rose. "Oh?" "Yep! He had it in one of those "Man Buns." It was cute!" Bobbi nodded while smirking. "Okay." "Charles is going to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame." "Cool."
