Charles was getting ready to fly to Chicago in a few days to appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show. There was only one problem. Martika, his hair braider had quit. She was pregnant with her and her Naval fiance's first child. She decided that she wanted to become a full time stay at home mom after her baby is born. Martika was due to give birth anyday now. So Charles has to find someone. And he needs them pronto.

Charles was packing and on the phone with his father. Just then, Savannah had walked in the bedroom right when Charles had said that he needed to find a braider. Savannah's eyes got wide. She knew the perfect person for the job. As soon as Charles got off the phone, Savannah made her suggestion. "I know someone that could braid your hair." Charles jokingly looked around. "Who?" "Lauryce!" Charles had a surprised look on his face. "Lauryce?" Savannah nodded "Yes Lauryce! She can braid her ass off. She does Lavell's braids. And I know you've seen his hair." Charles sighed "You know since that fight, your girl ain't feelin me much." Savannah shook her head "I know Lauryce would take that job in a heartbeat. You guys just need to talk it out. You are her favorite singer, after Michael Jackson of course." Charles looked at Savannah with hesitation. He finally agreed to Savannah's wishes. "Okay. Fine, I'll talk to Lauryce." Savannah hugged Charles. She then playfully pinched his cheeks. "You are so cute." Charles rolled his eyes while smirking. "Yeah, yeah, whatever." Savannah giggled and then gave Charles a smooch on the lips.

Savannah plopped down on the bed watching Charles pack. "I wish you could come with me to Chicago." "I know babe. But I have school. I can't just pack up and go on a trip somewhere. Maybe if I was on some type of break." Charles just shook his head in disappointment. Savannah looked down in thought. "There's something that I always wanted to ask you. And if you don't want to talk about it, I understand. But what was your mother like?" Charles had stopped packing. He walked over to where Savannah was sitting on the bed. "She was beautiful, kind and strong. You remind me of her so much." Savannah smiled "My mother was originally from Chicago. But she came out to California right after High school. My mother loved Baseball. Her favorite team was the Chicago Cubs. She also loved Sci-Fi. Her favorite show was Star Trek. My mother took me to a Star Trek convention. That's what introduced me to the whole convention scene." Savannah nodded "My mother was very spiritual as well. Her favorite gospel song was "Oh Happy Day". See, this was way before Sister Act 2. It's always been her favorite song. Infact, that was the first song she heard me play on the piano. See, I would play by ear. Never had taken a piano lesson in my life.

My mother said that I had the gift. And when she heard me sing, that did it for her. So I played the piano in church. And I sang in the choir. I eventually took piano lessons so that I could read music." Savannah was so intrigued by Charles's story. "I'd like to see a picture of your mom, if you don't mind." Charles got up and went to open a top drawer. He pulled out a picture. He handed it to Savannah.
