"I'm Theresa Wilkerson and I'm looking for my daughter. She's been shot!" "Okay. Calm down. What is your daughter's name?" "Chafonda Kumar." The woman at the front desk in the ER portion of the hospital looked up the name on the computer. "Chafonda Kumar....okay. It says that she's having emergency surgery right now. Ma'am, you're gonna have to wait here in the waiting room. Please fill out these forms. You may take a seat anywhere. Thank you." The woman handed Theresa a clipboard and a pen. Theresa sat down and just started praying to herself. "Please, I know she'll pull through. She's strong."

Moments later, a man came running up to the front desk in the ER

Moments later, a man came running up to the front desk in the ER. "My daughter is hurt real bad. I just wanna know where she is located?" "What is the name?" "Chafonda Kumar" The woman at the desk nodded. "Yes, your daughter is having emergency surgery as we speak. Please fill out these forms and take a seat and someone will be with you shortly." "Okay." The man turned around towards the waiting room. He spotted Theresa sitting down. "Terry! Terry!" Theresa looked across the room and spotted the man calling her name. "Sanjay! Oh my god!" Sanjay and Theresa walked quickly to each other. They gave each other a hug. Both were in tears.

Seconds later, Savannah walked up to the counter. "Hi, I just want to know, do you have any information on a patient that was emitted here? Her name is Chafonda Kumar." The woman behind the desk had a look of frustration on her face. She pointed to the two people in the waiting area. "Yeah those two asked about a Chafonda as well. All I can tell you is that she's in surgery. You're just gonna have to take a seat." Savannah nodded. "Thank you." Savannah walked over to Theresa and Sanjay. "Excuse me, are you Chafonda's parents?" Theresa and Sanjay nodded at the same time. "Yes!" "My name is Savannah. I'm a friend of Chafonda's. I also date your nephew Charles." Theresa's eyes got wide. "Oh my god! Yes, I know who you are." Theresa hugged Savannah tightly while still in tears.

After the embrace, Savannah shook hands with Sanjay. All three had sat down in some empty chairs. "Where is Chuck?!" Savannah sighed. "He's in New York. I tried calling him but he's not answering. It keeps going straight to voicemail." Theresa was frustrated. "You know what, I should call him." Theresa pulled out her phone and dialed Charles's number. It went to voicemail. "Boy, pick up the phone! Fondy is in the hospital. It's your Aunty Terry. Call me back immediately!" Savannah shook her head. "See, same problem. I didn't expect him to do that to you. I already knew that he would do that to me since we're not speaking to each other." Theresa shook her head.

Moments later, a doctor approached Theresa and Sanjay. "Are you the relatives of a Chafonda Kumar?" Theresa and Sanjay stood up and nodded. "Yes, I'm her mother Theresa Wilkerson." "And I'm her father Sanjay Kumar." Theresa had a look of worry on her face. "How is she doing?" "Your daughter is stable. She's resting right now. I don't know if you'd like to see her now. But she's heavily sedated." Theresa and Sanjay nodded eagerly. "We would like to see her." The doctor nodded. "Okay, well Nurse Gee will take you to her room." Theresa turned and looked at Savannah. "I think they're only letting immediate family in." Savannah nodded. "That's okay. I understand. I'll just wait out here."

Theresa and Sanjay went to Chafonda's room. Chafonda was sleeping. Theresa walked up to the bed that Chafonda was in. She started to rub Chafonda's hair. She kissed her daughter on the forehead. "My baby." Chafonda slowly opened her eyes. Her voice was groggy sounding. "Mama, what are you doing here?" Chafonda slowly moved around in pain. "Shhh....stop moving." Chafonda looked over at her father. "Dada!" Sanjay looked at his daughter with warm eyes. "I'm here daughter." Chafonda was so sedated with medication she couldn't keep her eyes open much longer. In seconds, she dozed off to sleep.

Theresa and Sanjay decided to stay overnight with Chafonda. Sanjay went to the waiting room where Savannah was sitting. He walked up to her and gave her an update on Chafonda. "Chafonda is very sedated. But she's okay." Savannah nodded. "Thank you for letting me know." Savannah started to yawn. "I'm tired. It's been a long night. I'm going home. I'll come back during visiting hours." Sanjay nodded. "That's the best thing to do. You have a nice night." Savannah stood up and headed towards the exit. "Thank you."
