A couple of days would go by. Charles left for New York. He would be gone for a week. Charles would be on MTV'S Total Request Live that Thursday. It would be Brand Spankin New music week. Charles was debuting the music video for his song "Get It Jumpin". That Friday, he would be on BET'S 106 & Park. Add appearances on radio programs, performances and guest appearances on TV shows, this trip was going to be non-stop.
Savannah went by the beachfront house with some groceries. Charles had given her a key so that she could come and go as she pleased. Savannah unlocked the door and went in. She noticed the TV was on. That had Savannah on edge. She thought that maybe someone broke in. Savannah came around the corner to the kitchen. She bumped into a tall woman who looked to be in her mid-20s wearing a bathrobe and had her hair in a messy bun on top of her head. "Oh shit! My bad." Savannah nearly had a heart attack. She had to catch her breath. She looked at the woman. "Who are you? And what are you doing in my man's house!?" The woman had a bit of a cocky smile on her face. "Oh damn! You must be Savannah. Chuck was right, you are a looker." Savannah looked at the woman with a puzzled look. "Excuse me! How do you know my name?" "Chuck told me all about you." "Well he didn't tell me a thing about you! Who the hell are you!?" "Sorry, let me introduce myself. I'm Chuck's cousin Chafonda."
Chafonda ☝️
Chafonda extended her hand. Savannah was hesitant to shake back but did it any way out of politeness. "Chuck obviously didn't tell you about me." "But what are you doing here?" Chafonda went to get a soda out of the fridge. "Chuck told me that I could stay here till I get back on my feet." Savannah had a look of confusion. "Back on your feet?" "Yeah I've been locked up for the last five years." Savannah looked at Chafonda wide eyed. "Locked up?" "Yeah for slangin' dope. But don't worry, I ain't 'bout that life no more. I'm trying to better myself." "Okay. Wow!....I can see the resemblance between you and Charles." "I know....all my life I've been told we look like twins. Except I'm prettier." Savannah chuckled "You are very pretty." "Thank You! I get my looks from my mother and my East Indian father." Savannah nodded "That explains all that long thick hair. You have alot of it." "Yeah girl....my hair grows like a weed. My mom and Chuck's mom were sisters." "Oh okay. Will you excuse me. I need to make a phone call." "Okay." Savannah went outside to the balcony. She dialed Charles's number. "Pick up....please pick up!" Charles finally picked up. "Hey Baby!" "Charles, when were you going to tell me that your cousin was staying here!?" "Oops....guess it slipped my mind." "Yeah....don't even." "Look, I'm really the only family she has. She doesn't have the best relationship with her mom and dad. I told her that she can stay there till things get better. Savannah, is that a problem?" "No....it's your house." "But baby, I want it to feel like it's your house also." "I guess....it's so much to take in." "Look I gotta go. We'll talk more about this tomorrow." Before Savannah could say anything, Charles had hung up. Savannah went back in the house. She went to the family room. Chafonda was sitting on the couch. "You don't mind if I invite a few of my peeps over, do you?" "No....go right ahead." "Thanks girl! You know, you alright." "Thanks....I'll be upstairs in my room."
