I woke up in a strange and unfamiliar room. It was larger than my entire house. My eyes fluttered open as I groaned from the throbbing in my head and the soreness in my jaw. What the hell happened last night?
I tried recalling the events before I blacked out. Cato, that son of a bitch! He knocked me out! I jolted up, ready to find him and kick his ass for offering me that mind-altering concoction and then knocking me out. I winced and grabbed my head again. The sudden movement made me dizzy. I should probably focus on recovering and figuring out where the hell I am first, though.
I look around further, and as my eyes meet the ground, I notice a familiar figure in sweatpants lying there. His mouth was open, and I watched as his shirtless diaphragm moved up and down. Still breathing. For now, anyway. I examined his features and the same flush from yesterday came back. This time, however, I couldn't blame it on the sun. He looked so peaceful I almost didn't want to wake him. When he wasn't violently attacking everything in sight, he was quite attractive.
I blinked hard trying to rid my mind of any more of these strange thoughts. Then, I shrugged and jumped on his body causing him to jolt up.
"Ow what the hell!" He furrowed his brows in annoyance, then felt his head, saw that it was me, and laid back down with his eyes closed. I was still on top of him.
"Where am I?" I asked.
His eyes were still closed as he groaned in response. "My room."
"Your room is a palace?" I questioned, looking around the luxurious interior in comparison to my own room.
"No, my room is in Victor's village, remember?" He winced at his head, and I knew he was probably feeling similarly to me. Whatever we drank must have an awful after effect.
I leaned back but stayed on top of him. "What happened last night?" I asked, wondering if he would tell me the truth.
"Oh good you don't remember." A slight smile formed as he covered his eyes with his hands. I could see that his knuckles were red and slightly bruised. "You basically confessed your love for me and so we eloped, and you are now Mrs. Clove Hadley," he joked.
I pushed him angrily and rolled my eyes. "Not funny."
"It's true," he chuckled. "You couldn't keep your hands off of me. Even now, you're on top of me!"
I rolled off of him and rolled my eyes again. "You beat up that guy," I stated, insinuating that I remembered everything.
He sighed and slowly sat up. "Yeah."
"Why?" I questioned, glancing back at his knuckles. He simply shrugged in response. I had a feeling he wasn't picking a fight just for the hell of it. There must have been some hidden motive that I was too oblivious to understand. But I decided to ask the more important question. "And why'd you take me back to your room?"
"You blacked out..." He started.
"Because you knocked me out," I interrupted.
He sighed and nodded. "Yeah I was getting there. Sorry about that."
"Trying to weaken me up before the games, are we?" I joked. I wasn't sure if it came across that way seeing as my tone usually remained the same: serious and unnerving.
He chuckled, "I would never!" He replied sarcastically. I felt a small smile forming on my face. As soon as I realized, I wiped it off and returned to my usual expression. Cato seemed to have noticed this and his smile faded as well. "Did you have fun though?" He asked.
I shrugged. "Yeah, I guess. Up until you knocked me out," I responded.
This brought his smile back and seeing his almost brought mine back as well. He looked at me intently, and it seemed like he was about to say something, but he stopped himself. I looked down, avoiding his gaze. I don't know why, but something about him looking at me in this way made me sad. Or maybe something more.
