Knowing Corinna couldn't come with Dad and me to the retirement home for the walkthrough, I left her in Creed and Alexi's very capable hands, and told them if there were problems, well, they knew where to find one of her fathers. I doubted they would have any issues, though. I left them with everything they needed, and Creed had parental experience. Even if it was something Alexi didn't want to acknowledge.

I went and picked up dad, the for sale sign in his front yard making me feel a strange sort of way.

"It's strange, isn't it, seeing the for sale sign on the house?" He said.

"Yeah, I never thought I would ever see the day." I said.

"Me either, but I'm an old man, and only getting older, Theo. I don't want you to have this debt for me forever. You need all the money you can get to make sure that daughter of yours is well taken care of. I just wish I would have realized sooner all the issues I created."

"It's never too late to change, you know this."

"I know. That's why once the debt is paid, and Maddox is content. I want you to extend my olive branch for him. Tell him I want to apologize for the years of words and actions that I am no longer proud of. I want him to know that his father would be proud of him."

"Are you dying?" I asked, confused by all this sudden changing he was doing.

"Maybe, who knows? I just feel like maybe I need to start getting my affairs in order in case my last days come sooner, than later." He said, looking out the window.

"You would tell if you knew you were dying, right?"

"Of course I would Theo. Trust me."

Pulling into the parking lot of the retirement home, I felt unwell.

"Come on, Theo, we need to go inside." He said.

"Dad..."

"Yeah?"

"This makes me sad."

"Theo. This is just part of getting older. Now come on. We both know this is something I need."

Getting out of the car, I walked beside dad inside the building and someone greeted us both right away.

"You must be Mr Vincent! We have been waiting to show you around. We are very excited that you're looking into our facility." She greeted my father and handed me and him a visitor pass. While she was showing him all the interesting things in the facility, I was looking for things that made me not want to allow him to live here. He could just live in our house with us.

"The residents are having a tea and cake luncheon with a live band if you would like to stay here, while I show your son your living room, bedroom, and bath facilities."

Dad stayed in the dining area with the other, and when we left, people had already begun to introduce themselves to him.

"You look uncomfortable, Mr Vincent."

"Please, call me Theo, and yes, I am a great deal uncomfortable."

"Is it the change of your father needing to move into a retirement home?"

"Yes."

"Well, Let's head to his room, and I'll help to make you more comfortable."

Heading up the elevator, dad was on the third floor and used her card on her key chain to open the door. Inside, it was nice and open.

"All the staff have these cards to come into the spaces. There's no kitchen, because all our residents have meals in the large dining room. All meals are provided and prepared here. Cleaning in the units is provided if the resident needs it, and all residents get a two-hour visit by our in house nurses, and if they need more care, we can provide it."
