Billie came down the stairs in an oversized shirt and her underwear, laptop in hand. She was on the way to the kitchen bar so she could eat breakfast and start some work, she was really behind. She'd been so stressed over Yohan all month that she kept spacing out so much she neglected her work.
Zoe had thankfully offered to drive Ella to school that day so she had slept in a little later than usual. A month of constantly crying had left her really exhausted and while she was still upset, at least Yohan was back safe and sound, so she had actually welcomed sleep for the first time in a month.
She jumped and yelped when she saw Yohan standing in the kitchen, making coffee. She didn't know Yohan had stayed the night.
The sound woke Yohan from her thoughts and she noticed Billie standing in the threshold of the kitchen. Holding a laptop and looking like a deer caught in the headlights.
"I didn't know you were still here," Billie mumbled in a small voice. Yohan tried to contain her shock at Billie having spoken to her first considering she had been avoiding her since she got back.
"Drew made me stay, why are you still here?" Yohan asked, genuinely curious, her voice lilting. She knew they had stayed the night but it was almost afternoon, Yohan figured Billie would have gone home by now.
Billie cleared her throat.
"I um, I live here." She mumbled, ducking her head, avoiding eye contact.
She moved into the kitchen to fix herself a cup of coffee before she realized what she was wearing, or not wearing for that matter, as she reached up for a mug. She flushed as the T-shirt she had on rode up, glad that it was at least long enough to make it end mid thigh because if it was shorter it would have exposed a lot more as she reached up. The panties she was wearing didn't leave a lot to the imagination, she tended to prefer lace.
Yohan must have realized it at the same time because she could feel her stare. Billie knew she had been raking her eyes over Billie's legs. Billie noticed from the corner of her eye how Yohan shook her head violently before averting her eyes.
Yohan really started to wonder if Billie just got more powerful every year because she had to mentally slap herself and literally shake her head before she could tear her eyes away from her body. She had been staring, respectfully, wondering how Billie Eilish was even real. How could a human be so beautiful?
Stuck in her somewhat lustful Billie haze, it took her a lot longer than it should have before what Billie said registered in her mind.
"Wait, what do you mean you live here?" Yohan asked, brows furrowed.
"You guys don't spend that much time here," she tried to joke.
Billie heaved a deep sigh, this isn't really how she wanted to have this conversation. She busied herself with her coffee before answering which had Yohan even more confused because Billie liked it black and a little bitter. She could tell Billie was stalling. Finally, she answered after putting entirely too much sugar in her cup.
"I left Gray. I'm getting a divorce. Ella and I live here for now."
She couldn't look at Yohan directly as she confessed, not wanting to see her reaction. Her reaction would either crush her soul or make her hope too much for something she knew she would never have.
Yohan felt all of her breath leave her body all at once. She wasn't serious was she? This had to be some cruel joke. Yohan dared to look at Billie again. Billie wasn't looking at her so all she could see was her profile but she could always read Billie and right now Billie looked so serious. Vulnerable, nervous even. The news hit her like a truck. Billie was telling her the truth. Billie left Gray. Billie left Gray. Yohan was torn between wanting to punch the air in excitement and running away again because her stupid heart was already hoping.
