HERO
"Is that the last of them?" I ask, lounging myself onto Jo's bed. She pulls the sellotape firmly into place on the now full cardboard box before smoothing her hand over. Making sure it's stuck in place.
"It is. I'm all packed," she says, sighing. Her head falls back, as does her hair down her back. She sounds just as relieved as I am. She's been putting this off more and more the closer we've got to tomorrow. But eventually, she caved, knowing packing - as much as she hates it, like pretty much everyone else in the world - was inevitable.
We've got a big day tomorrow. Every day for the last four weeks, I've counted down in my head to tomorrow. Because tomorrow is the day Jo and I get the keys to our new place. We're moving in together. Officially. It's a big step, obviously, but both of us agreed perhaps for us given the show, it's not that big a step at all.
In the house together, we shared everything. And I mean everything. That little room was our bubble, our safe place and haven to just be. Be ourselves, be us. And living with others, me with Morgan and Felix and Jo with Mia, we missed that. Of course, we had our bedrooms and the flats when everyone else was out but that's a rare occurrence. Ninety-nine per cent of the time, someone is always in with us.
But all that'll change tomorrow. I know deep down, I'm going to miss living with Morgan and Felix. They're the only two people I've ever lived with besides my parents. And Jo feels the same about moving out and away from Mia. If I didn't know better, I'd class them as sisters. They're so close given how much they have in common and what they've shared. I'm almost certain this is a reason why she's put off packing. Because it makes it all real for her and Mia.
It's not only Jo and I moving out tomorrow, it's Mia too. When Jo hands her key in tomorrow, so will Mia and she'll be the - hopefully - proud recipient of my key for my place. She's taking my old room and moving in with Felix and Morgan.
Surprisingly, it was Mia who suggested this. She was outright and honest when Jo and I announced our plans to move out. Stating she couldn't afford her and Jo's place on her own. In all honesty, living in London usually means living with someone else or a few people to share the extortionate rent so it didn't come as too much a shock.
But her suggestion to take my old room did. Jo and I thought perhaps she'd look online at other places around here. People searching for new roommates. But instead, she suggested taking my room and rent share knowing it was similar to what she was used to paying. Felix and Morgan jumped at the opportunity and said yes. Since Jo and I officially got together last Christmas, they've got on like a house on fire. It was the perfect scenario, for all five of us.
And Mia can certainly hold her own when it comes to the guys. It'll be a good mix, I'm sure. Like New Girl minus one guy and minus the funny business. Although I'm not convinced when it comes to Mia and Felix. My spidey senses are tingling about those two.
Mia finished packing about a week ago. She's had no issue facing reality. She's been ecstatic since handing their notice in. But Jo has. This was the place she and Mia shared fresh out of University. Where she's made the start of her life in London, away from Australia. It's their home and I know it holds a lot of sentimental value for both of them. But it's the start of something new for all of us tomorrow. And I know she'll see that when we get our keys.
Because Jo and I work in the same building, it made sense to look around the Canary Wharf area so we were closer to work. The commute at the moment is a bit of a killer as we have to make our way across the entire city. It's no fun in the morning for either of us, despite each other's company on the tube.
