Adrienne parked the car in front of Sage's building and looked ahead of her before turning to the other woman who seemed far-off with her thoughts. Her hands left the steering wheel and reached down to grip Sage's hand. Sage blinked repeatedly then turned her head to lock eyes with Adrienne and plastered her smile but it wasn't a natural one. She just smiled in order not to concern Adrienne after the talk they had an hour ago.

"Still thinking about it?" asked Adrienne.

"Yeah." She forced another smile.

Adrienne sighed internally with her eyes attached on their interlaced fingers then raised her eyes up and gleamed at the hazel blue ones.

"Take all the time you need, okay? I would never pressure you to do something you don't like, but... I'll be waiting for you. And if you didn't call me, that's fine by me too."

Sage smiled softly and nodded slowly while looking shyly down. Adrienne broke their hand contact and raised both her hands up to Sage's face so that she could gaze at her lovely eyes and Sage blushed when she saw Adrienne's smile. A pair of soft lips touched her forehead faintly, making her heart flutter inside her chest as the kiss prolonged.

Adrienne pulled back from Sage with the same smile and Sage retuned the smile as well before she opened the car door and let her shoes touch the ground. She stood by her building's door and waved at Adrienne one last time before disappearing from her view.

............................................

Two weeks later, everything went back to normal with their daily jobs but during the night they thought about one another and wondered what they were doing or if they even crossed each other's mind at some point.

Little Freya sometimes would ask her mother about Sage, and Adrienne would reply that Sage was busy with her work, and that's the reason she was never seen after their last supper. Deep down Adrienne wanted nothing more than to let her eyes catch a glimpse of Sage, but she respected Sage's wishes and let her be.

On the other hand, Sage was doing good at her job, both her jobs. She earned enough money since she took night shifts at the diner when no one needed her at the club and she was able to catch up on her payments.

Gina scolded Sage for ruining her chances with the billionaire woman since she did some digging on the Jones family, however, Sage couldn't care less about the other woman's wealth and fortune. Gina was sure that her friend's intention was authentic from the beginning since the only one thing Sage wanted in her life was a rescue from someone other than her closest and loved ones.

....

Sage was in the dressing room at the night club, staring down at her phone that showed the name of the one person who was invading her mind lately. Her finger was aching and desiring to press the call button, but her mind kept dragging her away from committing something that could gain her the happiness. She was rigid that the universe wrote off her happy ending.

Tiffany, the blonde stripper, walked behind Sage when she saw her with a bewildered expression all over her face, having her eyes raking over the phone in her sweaty palms. Out of concern, she tapped her shoulder lightly, leading for the frustrate woman to turn to her with a frown.

"You okay, Sage?"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine." She lied to herself but the blonde wasn't naïve.

"You sure about that? I can tell your face is telling a different story."

"It's just some silly stuff. Nothing to be concerned about." She sighed loudly. "You finished your dance?"

She nodded at Sage and ran a hand through her honey blonde hair. Sage always envied Tiffany for having such luminous hair. It perplexed her how someone so beautiful with grey eyes and with a long hair that reached down her back could work in a damaged place like this. She could be a model for her gleaming features and her body of a goddess, but life once again played unfairly and threw her at a place that she never belonged to.
