AMANI WEST

Once again I found myself stuck in this situation where my body keeps betraying me. I hate that I react this way around him.

Snap out of it! I thought. Coming back to reality I step out of his grasp.

"I'm good, thanks" I speak with no emotion trying to maneuver my way around into the bathroom.

"Good, next time watch where you're going," He said.

He then bent down and picked up my phone. Grabbing my wrist he placed the device in my hand and started to walk down the hall.

I froze once again. What is it with this boy and him making me freeze?

Turning around slowly I glared at the back of his head.

"What did you just say?" I say with an annoyed tone.

His walk comes to a halt and he spins around to face me. His eyes displayed a hint of him being shocked by my outburst but his face remained cool.

"Watch where you're going...?" Sarcasm dripped from his tone.

Completely disregarding my past urge to pee I stepped closer to him. I felt my craziness bubbling to the surface as I laughed in disbelief. He seemed taken aback by my laughing.

"Last time I checked you bumped into me," I crossed my arms squinting my eyes at him.

He stepped closer to me keeping intense eye contact. If I wasn't annoyed I would've folded immediately.

"Did you forget that you were walking with your head down on your phone?" He said in disbelief gesturing towards the phone in my hand, his tone still had a hint of sarcasm.

"Did you forget how fast you came out of the bathroom?" I challenged "What were you even doing in there weirdo?" I questioned him.

"What kind of question is that?" He looked me up and down. "You better chill out wit' allat,"

My face immediately turned up at his response. He did not just tell me to chill out...

"Or what?" I tilted my head stepping closer to him and his cologne filled my nose. At this point, we are almost as close as we were when we collided with each other earlier. I didn't mind he smelled good plus, I wasn't going to back down.

His eyebrows raised at my choice of words. He seemed almost pleased with my response. A smirk began to form on his soft lips.

Licking his lips he bent down to my height and finally spoke, "That lil attitude don't phase me ma, I like that sh**"

"But you know what you got it, Imma let you slide on this one 'cause you cute..."

He moved closer passing my face and towards my ear, "But next time..." He shook his head leaning back up and letting a quiet laugh leave his lips.

He then stepped back turning around and leaving the hallway with his infamous graceful walk.

I still have to pee...

"Girl, then the nigga had the nerve to tell me to chill out" I was currently on the phone with my best friend Nija.

"Unt uhnnn no he did not" she egged me on.

"Yes, girl I had to check him real quick 'cause he had me messed up" I had my phone propped up on the sink while currently tackling my skincare routine in the bathroom.

Nija began laughing at my boldness, "What did u say to him?" she talked in between her giggles.

"Ight so boom..." I begin to give her a quick run down on what happened earlier tonight.

Nija was my next-door neighbor, she had been living there for about four and a half years. She moved in the summer before our freshman year.

"Chile he better be cute with the way he acts," Nija said rolling her eyes.

"I promise he is, he just got a stanky attitude" I scrunched my face up thinking about how he acts.

I finished washing my face and migrated downstairs to grab a snack.

My mom was sitting cozy on the couch under her favorite blanket watching some reality show on the television.

She watched me head into the kitchen scavenging the cabinets for an appropriate late-night snack.

"You were extra quiet at dinner today, especially after KB showed up" She pointed out from the other room. "So, What's up?"

I grabbed a couple of granola bars and turned toward her. "I'm fine ma, I just don't know those people" I sighed hoping she would let it go.

"I know baby and I understand that, but I just hope this has nothing to do with what I heard in the hallway earlier" She locked eyes with me making sure I heard her.

I stopped in my tracks. I know she walked in the hallway afterward but there's no way she heard all of that... I thought.

"Well," I paused, "What did you hear?" I asked eager to know what she heard. Knowing what all went down this could get embarrassing quickly.

"Oh nothing, just..." She then switch to a deep voice mocking KB "...Your attitude didn't phase me lil mama"

I cackled at her attempt to mock him.

"Ma he did not say all that," I said still laughing at her.

"Chile I don't know he said something like that" She began to laugh as well, "I know he was cussin' too, I almost popped him"

I laughed harder "Ight on that note I'm going upstairs to go to sleep," I said standing up.

"Wait! You're not telling me what happened?" She called out while I was already halfway up the stairs.

"Nope! Goodnight Ma!" I yelled back over my shoulder.

As I walked into my room I heard "Hellooo??" coming from my bed.

"Oh shoot!" I quickly walked to my bed picking up the phone I had left upstairs during my confrontation with my mom.

"My bad stink I forgot we were on the phone," I said sitting on my bed with my phone in my hand.

Nija rolled her eyes, "Mhmm don't let it happen again" She joked.

"But I was just going to say I'm tired so goodnight and I love you stink," she said, I watched her adjust herself in her bed pulling her comforter up to her chin.

"Okay well, goodnight I'll see you at church tomorrow stink love you too" We both hung up.

After eating my snacks I plugged my phone in to charge and opened my laptop typing in Boondocks in the search bar.

Once I got everything ready I rolled over on my bed and got comfortable dozing off into a deep sleep.
