•Amir West•

Turning over I placed my pillow over my head trying to ignore whoever the f*ck was bangin' on my door while I'm tryna sleep.

"Amir!" I heard. I groaned getting up and swingin' the door open revealing Amani. As I looked at her my heart dropped when I began to realize that tears were streaming down her face.

What the f*ck...

My eyes immediately roamed around trying to see if she was hurt or somethin'. A familiar Christmas card in her hands caught my eye.

Flashback

"Has she talked to her yet?" He asked.

"Na, Ion think so, Mani is still clueless about everything." I shook my head no. He smacked his lips leaning back and crossing his arms.

"Well, I sent Tootie a gift for Christmas and sh*t so that should be in the mail soon. Make sure she gets it, Ace."

"Yes sir," I also made a mental note to make sure my momma don't see it either.

"D*mn so by the time she tell ha' Imma be out this b*tch," He looked off the side sighing. "I tried callin' the other day but she ain't answer. It's coo though I only got a week left, she can't keep runnin' from me"

End of Flashback

I pulled Amani into my room silently cursing tryin' to think of a way to explain this to her without her getting more upset.

"Mani, c'mere" I pulled her into a hug, "Why you cryin' lil bit?" I asked even though I knew the answer.

"I don't know, I'm just so confused," She cried.

"Ight, well let's go sit down so I can help you understand," I said leading her to my bed to sit. Once she sat down I paced back and forth tryin' to gather up my thoughts. Deciding what Imma do I sat down next to her.

"Ask me anything, I swear Imma answer truthfully. Now stop cryin'," I said wiping her tears. Taking a deep breath she sniffed and nodded.

"He has been locked up my whole life?" She asked.

"Uh, yea basically. You were four when it happened,"

"And you knew this whole time?"

"Yea," I sighed. She scoffed lookin' away. "But, I wasn't allowed to say anything to you about it. Sh*dd I wasn't even able to contact the nigga until I turned eighteen. I guess ma thought it would be best if you ain't know" I explained.

"Wow, what was he locked up for?" She was taking this information better than I thought.

"Murder," I said with a straight face. She gasped bringing her hands up to her mouth.

"Really?"

"Nahhh, I'm just f*ckin' witchu," I grinned at her.

"That's not funny," She said.

"It was a little bit funny," I chuckled. She shook her head, a small smile appearing on her face.

"He was taken in for drug possession and somethin' else I can't remember," I told her.

"Okay...Uh, he said something about sending letters. Where are they at?"

"That's a question you'll have to ask our mother. I don't know where she been keepin' 'em at, but I do know that she has been keepin' 'em from you,"

"How much more time does he have?"

"About five more days..."

"Wow," She shook her head in disbelief. "I don't know what else to say. I guess I'm still taking this all in,"
