It was later in the day and the sun was beginning to set. If I had to assume I'd say it was past five.
Music played lowly and I was enjoying the vibe. Kobi and I were finished with our food and have been getting to know each other. We had been here for a while. Occasionally one of us would speak up starting up a random conversation. At the moment we were on a roll with our conversations. We had been talking nonstop for a while now. I haven't checked my phone since we started talking.
"So...do you like it here so far?" I asked him
"I mean yea it's coo I guess, I have only been here a couple of weeks so I don't know" I nodded at his response understandingly.
"Do you miss where you used to be?" I was curious and wanted to get to know him better.
"Of course I do, that's where I grew up ya feel me?" He explained
"Yea, I feel you..." I was scared to ask but I was also curious, "Why'd you move?" I asked, Kobi grimaced awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck. I suddenly regretted my question.
"You don't have to answer if don't want to" I reassured him.
"Nah you good, it's just a long story," he said
"I get it, it's fine," I told him, I didn't want him to feel pressured to tell me.
"Long story short, I was getting into a lot of trouble so my pops thought it was best if we had a fresh start" He explained to me.
"I understand" I paused before speaking again softly, "Do you think he was right?"
Kobi sighed before answering, "Somewhat, but knowing my pops even if he was wrong we was gone do it his way anyway...but that's a story for another day"
I nodded not having anything to say to that.
"You askin' me all these questions I feel like I'm getting interrogated," He said lightening the mood, "Lemme start askin' you some"
"Okay shoot" I spoke turning my body towards him.
"Uhhh lemme think...Okay do you do any sports or anything at school?" he questioned
"Yes I do, I cheer and I'm in Choir," I told him
"So what I'm hearing is you can sing" He paused for a little bit nodding in approval, "Bet bet,"
I chuckled at his reaction,
"You know gotta sing for me now right?" He smirked at me.
"Um no" I declined, maybe I could sing for him later but right now that was too nerve-racking.
"Why not?" Kobi complained
"Because I don't want to sing right now" I chuckled, he was acting like a big baby.
"Fine since you won't sing I'm just gonna go to sleep," Kobi said, he scooted down in his seat and leaned his seat back. He then closed his eyes throwing his arm over his eyes afterwards.
I just looked at him in disbelief. No way he is about to go to sleep right now.
"You know I can feel you staring at me" Kobi teased while keeping his arm over his eyes.
I rolled my eyes looked away and finally decided to check my phone.
My heart dropped.
I had two missed calls from my mom. My phone was on mute the whole time. I didn't even think to tell her where I was going, she is probably freaking out right now.
