"I see him in places that he isn't." I paced around the small room, fidgeting with my fingers."How so?" Baghra asked.
"He came to me at the Spinning Wheel, when he wasn't really there." I stopped right in front of her. "I... I could see him, but his body was physically elsewhere."
"Aleksander came to you as a projection?"
"David thinks thats there is some sort of connection between us."
"Which would sustain the link between you. He knew you had the Sea Whip."
"I have to sever it. I can't keep thinking he'll be around every corner, that he'll haunt me as I wake." I huffed, taking a seat beside her.
"This mental bridge between you can only be crossed if you choose to cross it." She began. "Every time you think of him or he thinks of you, you seek the other out."
"I do not seek him at all!"
"You know him." She placed a somewhat comforting hand on my shoulder. "He will continue to invade your thoughts, your life, to convince you of the error of your ways. You must find a way to block him." And with that, she left me alone.
The only way to block him, was to seek him out. Find him myself.
I took a deep breath, looked around to make sure no one was near, and took my ring off. If anything happened, I did not want to lose it.
I took one last look at my surroundings before closing my eyes. I breathed in deeply and let my mind travel to the thought of Aleksander.
I felt the air change from the once warm and comforting room, to a cold and hostile one.
And there he was.
"Aleksander." I called out to him. "You seem surprised to see me."
"I am." He admitted. "But perhaps I shouldn't be, I should have known you'd prove to be an apt pupil."
"I realized you were right."
"How so?"
"I was meant for more." I could feel power surging through my veins. "You were the first person to see me as I truly am. First to help me realize what I'm capable of."
"Was I? And what about your prince? He chuckled.
"Nikolai doesn't understand the power growing within me. He can't." I was ashamed with my words, even if I didn't mean them.
"That's not his fault." Aleksander shook his head. "I did try to warn you. Tried to explain."
"There are no others like us and there never will be. Not even Alina." I began walking towards him. "I'm finally starting to understand that. To feel it." And by the last few words, I was so close to him that I could feel his cold breath on my face.
"Adelaide! Ada! Ada, wake up. Adelaide, come on, look at me!" Nikolai. I could hear Nikolai calling for me. But I chose to ignore him.
"As delighted as I am that you found your way to me," Aleksander had began to speak again. "what do you want?"
"This thing that binds us. I think you fear it more than you care to admit."
"I feared everything there is to fear, it made me strong. I understand things about power that you've years yet to learn."
"It's not all about power though, is it? What about what I want?" I said, reaching up to hold his face in my hand. His head melted into my hand and his eyes fluttered closed. I had to admit, he looked good under the light of the candles. Too good.
