"I'd rather live with broken bones then lay here all on my own like a lovesick fool."

Ashton sat patiently with Luke, waiting for Tia to come with Calum and Michael.
When he heard that the boys had met her already, he was surprised. It was neither a good one or a bad one, it was simply just a, well, surprise. He vividly remembered telling the three of them to stay out of his family issues, but of course, they had to stick their heads in somehow.
"Ash, are you sure you don't need to be anywhere with your mom and dad?" Luke swung his legs anxiously while sitting at the edge of the gym stage. Ashton admired how Luke could willingly think about him even when he was obviously itching to play as a band again.
It had been around two weeks since they arrived in the small town, and not once had Ashton touched his drumsticks. He longed to go wild and let his emotions out and scream at the top of his lungs. However, being the supposed "father" figure of the band, he was forced to act like one; even though he was only roughly a year older than Michael.
"Nah, man, it's cool. I think they need to spend some time alone anyways." Ashton answered.
Luke looked hesitant, yet slightly relieved. "Okay, just tell us if you need to leave or anything. We won't mind."
Ashton wasn't used to him and Luke acting so distant and polite, after all, he had spent the last three or four years of his life with him. "Yeah."
"You know you can talk to us, right? You don't have to be strong all by yourself." Luke stood up and walked over to Ashton, who was sitting on the ground near his drum kit.
"I'm not particularly worrying about the situation with Tia right now, it's kinda something else." Ashton said reluctantly. He didn't want to have to tell Luke and the others this early, but he supposed better now than never.
"What is it?" Luke looked genuinely curious. When Ashton didn't respond, Luke spoke again. "Is it a girl?"
Ashton blushed furiously, Luke had hit spot on.
"Yeah, uh well, I met her when I was out shopping with my mum." Ashton replied, looking down at his criss-crossed legs. He felt a bit foolish to be thinking of such trivial things when there were many other things that he could easily worry about.
"Dude, seriously? Is she hot?" Luke asked.
"Duh, actually she's gorgeous. And smart. And funny."
Luke narrowed his eyes, "So why are freaking out about it?"
Ashton scratched the back of his head, not wanting to say what it really was. He knew he had to though, because Luke wouldn't judge him no matter what. "She's 15, Luke."
Luke hesitated. "So?"
"So? She's five years younger than me, and that's a lot, if you didn't realize."
"Age is just a number, Ash. If she's really as amazing as you say she is, that won't get in the way." Luke patted Ashton's shoulder in reassurance.
