"So much time WASTED!" I yelled as I threw my papers across the room.
Finally we had a living extra terrestrial. Proof of life on other planets and what do we do with it? NOTHING!
Why do they care about ethics or morals? Because the alien looks similar to a human? BAH just look at the eyes it's clearly not human. We have a perfect opportunity to study a life form from another planet but we do nothing with it. So what if the alien may face termination should we test it too harshly we'll arrive on its home planet soon enough.
"Doctor Vaistos are you in there? I heard a loud noise is everything ok?" I heard a voice speak... ah must be one of those assistants.
"Just frustration. Leave me be." I answered in a calm voice masking my rage well.
Footsteps... good they're leaving.
"Now then... how to handle this..." I said before turning back to video feed showing me the genetically modified animals "ah yes the chimeras." I grinned as I decided what I'd do.
The admiral may not be happy about this but he's a fool so he'll forget soon enough.
I decided to open the cages to some of the more aggressive creatures. Even if they weren't the brightest there weren't many humans left that weren't in stasis so they should be able to do the job well enough.
"I want you to find and retrieve the Avosian and bring it to me. Rip off its limbs if you must just remember to keep the vital organs intact." I gave the order and off they went.
*******
"Alright children I hope you had a nice break. It's time to resume our lesson""So we know of the elements and their origins but can anyone tell me more about how they are cast" I asked the class seeing who'd have confidence to answer.
Larentia was the first to answer. "The caster much create an image of the Sigil in their mind in order to use magic. Skilled mages are able to do so subconsciously." She said looking proud of herself
"Yes very good Larentia. Now as you may know each of the 8 elements has a basic set of sigils and more involved ones are used for more advanced forms of magic. But does anyone know why some magic can be used that doesn't strictly fall into any of the 8 normal elements? Well it's because some magic falls under fused elements when more than 2 sigils are used together. Now can anyone tell me which element fuses easiest with the others? Let's see... Lyric do you know?" I said asking the young boy. As far as I know he hasn't shown any distinct affinity with any magic yet but he's always hard at studying so maybe he'd know.
"It's time your majesty. That sigil is the simplest designed which makes it easiest to fuse with others." He said with a proud look in his eyes I guess he was happy to be asked a question he knew.
Very well I'll praise him a bit.
*clap clap* "yes that's exactly right Lyric!" I praised the young boy and I could see him smile brightly.
"Yes time magic fuses with any other element with relative ease, with the exception of space fusing those two would require a master of both. But as for fusion magic the most common we see is 'healing' which is really just a combination of ice and time magic. This is not the same as... as Lilian's magic which would fall under the category of Almighty." I explained pausing a bit to think about what Lily was doing now, hoping she was ok.
"Now there's two ways to fuse magic, either between two different casters being in sync with one another or by having the two sigils align at their main points. As I've heard it Larentia has already learned how to perform the second method." I said looking at the purple haired girl.
"Professor if it's alright with you I'd like to show an example to the rest of the class." She requested.
Hmmm, well I suppose it'd be alright if I set up the barrier.
"Very well Larentia on the following condition. You have to change into safety gear first and I'll be setting up a barrier as well in case something goes wrong." I said that and I could see a flicker of disappointment on her face.
"Come on let's go. Get you changed, everyone else feel free to go to the bathroom if you wish we'll reconvene in 20 minutes"
And so 15 minutes passed Larentia was now wearing magic armor instead of her fancy dress and he hair was tied back in a ponytail. We made our way back to the classroom.
"Professor I would have been fine without the safety gear you know. I've practiced this plenty." She said to me upset that I doubted her abilities.
"Larentia... I've seen children like you before. Naturally gifted but also able to apply themselves. I've also seen what happens to them when they try to grow up too quickly... they wind up passing away young or changed forever. So I know you may find these precautions frustrating but please just bare with me... and allow yourself to be a child from time to time. There will be plenty of chances to be a grown up when you're older alright."
"*sigh* alright your Maje- Professor."
Finally we reached the classroom and I set up a space barrier around Larentia and Myself but leaving it clear for the others to see.
She put her hand together and then began. One eye turned brown like the dirt we all walked on while her other became an emerald green. I could see small rocks begin forming in one hand while small concentrated wind was in the other and then the sigils appeared the brown eye taking on the sigil of earth while the green taking on the sigil of wind... this is what makes single fusion magic so dangerous the sigils must be contained within oneself and failure could result in considerable injury.
Then the elements converged the fusion was a success as the merged sigil appeared on her hands... wait no those weren't her hands those were gauntlets of small stones all floating millimeters above her skin itself. She made her own armor... I see.
"I'm done casting the spell Professor. You can drop the barrier if you wish."
"In just a moment. Can you move your hands for me?" I asked making sure she wasn't injured
She showed she had full range of motion and no injuries present. The only thing out of place was her slightly messy hair and dust on her face.
With that I dropped the barrier.
"That's so cool!" Francesca and Lyric of all people said in unison. Escher and Sophie also held looks of surprise on their faces though they didn't say anything. Natalie also spoke praises to Larentia though she was much more formal about it, while Simon simply gave a thumbs up.
I could see a blush of embarrassment on Larentia's face. I get it now... she's the oldest of her friends so she wanted to show off to them.
I went over to my desk and pulled a small pin out of my magic lockbox. These achievement pins were something Charlene of all people suggested in order to help show the milestones and could even be worn to formal events as this was technically the "Gehnan royal academy" even though it was mostly just a glorified school for less than a dozen kids right now. There were plans to create a full blown academy for the children of Gehna and other nations one day.
Originally I hadn't planned to give out any of these until they passed all their training exercises but Larentia performed exceptionally.
"Congratulations Larentia Alura Nexiv you have officially performed a successful solo magic fusion." I said as I presented her with the first pin of achievement.Aaaaand that's the chapter hope y'all enjoyed. School is almost done and video games are fun. Hope to see y'all again soon enough.
