Chapter 16: follow the light

After that horrible headache I decided to lie down and drift off to sleep.

...
Only to find myself in some dark forest location still in a nightgown.

I wasn't wearing my glasses but for some reason I could see fine enough. Looking up it appeared as if the sky was absolutely lit up with stars. It was a beautiful sight to behold and one I wasn't familiar with.

But pulling myself away from the sights I reset my bearings. Where was I?

Aside from the stars it felt like an indistinct forest of just greys and blacks. But then something caught my attention.

A strange faint glow emanated from the... south I guess? I couldn't exactly tell here but I felt strangely compelled to go to it.

I took one step forward then another then another. I needed to follow this light. I couldn't tell but if you were to look at my eyes at the time they would've been silver as if I was in a trance of some sort.

I heard noises. All around me it started to feel overwhelming.

Wait this wasn't noise. These were words I think.

It felt strange but I could recognize a bit of a pattern so I assumed it was a language and continued to make my way through the dark forest.

For simplicity sake Italics means they're the words Lily is hearing

"Humanity is doomed"
"The carlesia was destroyed. What a waste."
"We have another 100 or so years left but without proper repairs Ark Noah will be destroyed and with it Humanity will be done for."

"No... nonononono CAIUS NO!!!!!"
The scream of a woman I'd never heard before caught my attention.

That lady was screaming Papa's name. Wait a second... this was Papa's old language that was being spoken.

I was only starting out but Papa and Mama have been teaching both me and Sophie how to speak and read his old language English I think he called it but it acted as a way for us to have a secret code to communicate with each other.

So whomever that woman was must have known papa. I wonder if it could be Aunt Kate?

Unfortunately I never met her so I couldn't say for sure.

The voices continued as my pace did

"Eureka! I FOUND A PLANET!"

"You're saying there's hope?"

"How long until we arrive?"

"About 2 years if this data is to be believed"

"About you don't know?"

"Calm down its within a week."

"With that beacon we can establish a warp point."

"Technically but it won't be accurate."

So much going on at once. I knew I couldn't translate all of it so I simply tried to remember what they were saying and ask papa and mama later.

But this was too much to memorize.

"We'll arrive on planet Avos within 2 years time but before that we need to warp in scouts. They can determine the survivability of the planet and the safest place to land."

"It's a suicide mission ya know"

"Maybe but it's our best chance at reaching Avos and surviving as a species."
