"ring the bells that still can ring

forget your perfect offering

there is a crack a crack in everything

that's how the light gets in"

~ leonard cohen

*

one day together we went in search of waffles

and returned with a spoonful of together on a waffleless night

*

if i were to find the midpoint

between a moment and a forever

i'd lose the correct answer

somewhere around a life

where a butterfly flaps its last breaths

*

in the soft yellow uslit room we breathed

as if we'd just surfaced only for breathing

*

there was a crack in the sheath time breathed over us.

how wide must a crack be to become a window

and how tall a window to become a door?

*

is the crack a sign of separation, she asked.

no, he replied. it is a reminder that we are together.

if we walk along the edges of the crack we'll reach

its ends around which we can be more together again.
