Emma came into work that day, strolling along with her oxygen tank behind her. Things were good for her at the moment, she was spending a lot of time with Dylan and that made her happy. She walked into the office, seeing Norma there at the desk. "Morning Norma."
"Oh, Emma...hey. I've been waiting for you to get here. I wanted to tell you that I've reduced your amount of shifts. It's not good for you to be working so much right now.." Norma said with a small smile, looking over at Emma.
"Oh, no...I can't leave you to work by yourself. You're already stressed out-"
"I'm not working by myself." Norma shook her head, a faint grin starting to appear on her face. "Uhm, Alex is working with me."
"Oh he is, is he?" Emma smirked.
"Yup. He uh...lost his job." She nodded.
"What? How?"
"He did something...I, uh, something bad. And it was kinda my fault...I mean he did it to protect me or---whatever, I don't know..." She mumbled, feeling slightly embarrassed.
"Oh my god." Emma rubbed her forehead.
Norma frowned. "What? What's wrong?"
"You two, that's what wrong!! You quite obviously like and want to be with each other but you just sit on your asses not doing anything about it!"
"Emma. He doesn't like me. You've got to be kidding me, right?"
"Oh shut uuuup. You know he does. I've seen you tease him. You know that he finds you attractive, and you find him attractive to."
"Me attractive? Psh. You should see our new guest." She mocked the girls irritating voice. "I'm Ashley Maxwell. Hey handsome." She rolled her eyes. "She was all over him, and he was enjoying it...no matter how much he said he wasn't."
Emma found the amount of jealousy radiating from Norma amusing. Surely she couldn't deny she liked him, nobody got that jealous for nothing. "Well what did he say?"
"I said that I didn't like her, and he said I was being rash. I told him he was just saying that because he thought she was hot, but he said he didn't think she was. That he preferred blondes." She laughed, shrugging.
"Oh my god." Emma repeated, face palming this time.
"What?!" Norma said yet again, looking at Emma in confusion.
"That was a line!!" Emma said, her hands flapping around to express her irritation. "He wasn't saying he prefers blondes, he was trying to say that he prefers you! Are you stupid?!"
"Alex is not the type of guy that does 'lines'"
"Yeah, well I didn't think he was the type of guy that would win a woman a teddy at a carnival either but he did for you didn't he?" Emma crossed her arms. "I don't know Norma, guys do stupid things to get women's attention. Plus they have to go to extra lengths when the woman they're after is as stubborn as a stroppy teenager."
"What the hell, I am not stubborn?!" Norma said, acting surprised.
"See, you won't even admit that you are! That proves my point! Urghhhh." Emma ran her hand through her hair. "The two of you are so frustrating-"
"Emma.." Norma said warily, seeing that Alex was literally just about to walk through the door.
"No, Norma...it's ridiculous! Neither of you will admit-"
"Emma!" Norma said louder this time, widening her eyes at her.
She just ignored her and continued, assuming that Norma was just being her usual stubborn self and refusing to listen to what she had to say. "Neither of you will admit that you're in love with each-" Emma begin to grow confused over why Norma was so desperate for her to shut up, until she followed her wandering gaze and saw Alex standing at the doorway. "-other..." she trailed off, wondering just how long he'd been there. "Alex, Hey! Well...Norma, glad we could have that chat...I need to, do a thing...so I'll be, yup" she nodded awkwardly, pointing to the door and darting off before Norma could yell at her.
