It was around 5:40pm and Norma and Alex were sitting downstairs waiting for Emma, Dylan and Norman to be ready. Norma was wearing a tight navy blue dress and a pair of new black heels; which were very nice, however she had a feeling they wouldn't feel so nice after a while of walking in them. Alex originally had on a plain dark blue shirt, which Norma made him take off because they'd 'clash'. She'd then picked out a blue checked shirt and gave it to him, and he didn't understand why that wasn't 'clashing' but she insisted that checked is different. Fashion was a foreign concept for him, he didn't really understand it from a woman's point of view.
When Dylan and Emma finally arrived, Norma walked over and smiled, hugging Emma. "Hey you!" she lowered her voice, speaking close to her ear. "Thank you for earlier--" she pulled away, holding her at arms length and stepping back so she could look at her. "You look beaaautiful."
Emma let out a quiet, breathy laugh at Norma's comment about earlier on. She never mentioned it to Dylan; even though she had a feeling that the situation wasn't the way it looked, she thought Norma would be embarrassed about Dylan hearing about it either way. She followed Norma's gaze down to her dress. It was short and a dark purple colour, lace detailing at the top and a skater skirt bottom. "Oh...thank you. I bought this dress a while ago but I hadn't really had the chance to wear it until now." she smiled brightly. "But so do you! You look gorgeous. Love the dress." she said with a nod, looking over at Alex as he walked over. "And hey! You two are matching--that's so cute."
Norma laughed, looking at Alex then back at Emma. "Thanks I guess. It wasn't intentional."
"Pfft. You picked out the shirt." Alex stated, raising his eyebrows.
Norma looked at Emma, pointing back towards Alex. "He put on a plain dark blue shirt on at first, he thought that would be okay." she said with a roll of her eyes.
"Ohhh...navy blue and navy blue? Nooo. That would've been weird." She said with a scrunch of her nose.
"Exactly, that's what I said!" Norma said, looking back to Alex as if he was dumb.
"But that shirt is blue too--" Dylan jumped into the conversation, looking confused.
"That's what I said." Alex mumbled.
"Checked is different!" Emma and Norma said at the same time, and both Alex and Dylan widened their eyes.
"Alright, whatever...we'll take your word for it." Dylan laughed slightly and shook his head. "Hey where's Norman anyways?'
"Norman!" Norma shouted up the stairs. "We're ready to go, hurry up"
"I'll be down in a minute mother!!" Norman said irritably, still trying to get ready.
"Fine, don't be long. We'll wait for you outside." She said, making her way back to the doorway and rolling her eyes.
Dylan opened the door, and the rest followed him outside.
"I brought my polaroid camera, it takes super cute pictures and I want to take some." Emma said excitedly as they reached the end of the steps outside the house. "You two have never had a picture together have you?" she said to Alex and Norma.
"Uhh...no. No I guess we haven't" Alex said awkwardly, looking at Norma. He hated having his picture taken.
"Well that needs to be changed! Go ahead and stand over there by the motel sign" Emma said, shooing them away with her hand and getting the camera ready.
The two of them took a few steps backwards so they were by the motel sign, Alex looking extremely stiff and awkward.
"Alex." Emma tilted her head, not looking impressed. "Come on. Get closer, she doesn't bite."
