When Norma woke up, the bright light of the sun shining through the gap in the curtains practically blinded her. She groaned, feeling a shooting pain in her head. That's when she remembered that she'd drank a lot last night. Along with a certain someone else, who she soon realized was what she was so comfortably lying on. She tried to carefully sit up without waking Alex, but she didn't realize his arm had been draped around her.
Alex was sound asleep, but when he felt movement he was easily woken up. He opened one eye, groaning. Yet again, his head felt like it was going to explode. Drinking was fun while it lasted, but once you sleep it away that's when karma hits. When he managed to eventually properly open his eyes, Alex saw Norma just about leaning up from lying on him. "Uhh...hey." he laughed slightly, scratching his head.
Hearing him speak, she turned to look at him. "Oh hey you're awake." she said with a small smile.
"It's a bit hard not to be when you're not there moving around." He raised an eyebrow, teasing her.
"Well sorry! It's hard not to when you had your arm clinging to me." She teased back, grinning.
A faint red color flushed over Alex's face and he soon filled the awkward silence by getting back at her. "You're the one who fell asleep on top of me." He mumbled, shrugging.
"Uhh, please. I think we both know that was because we were both drunk as hell. I wouldn't be surprised if I passed out on you." She laughed awkwardly, trying to dismiss the idea that she'd ever voluntarily sleep cuddled up to him like that.
"Well actually you've done it before. That night we watched a movie, yeah...you fell asleep on me. I just didn't tell you because you were still fast asleep when I woke up." He grinned slightly, remembering how cute she looked in that moment. "You must feel comfortable with me then, since both times you've slept like a log. I mean it is like-" He looked at his watch. "-eleven o'clock."
"IT'S WHAT?!" Norma yelled, practically jumping up from the couch. "I was supposed to be awake 4 hours ago! Holy shit, holy shit, okay, I gotta go."
Alex flinched, rubbing his head. "Don't shout like that. Every noise I hear is already increased by like 100 decibels with this migraine." he grumbled. "Anyway what's so important you need to get up so early?"
"In case you'd forgotten, I own a motel?!" She looked at him with her hands on her hips.
"I see what you mean. Some of us have jobs to do, right?" Alex said, thinking she was offending him.
"Oh my god, come on." She rolled her eyes at him. "Don't be so sensitive, that's not what I said or what I meant. I'm upset that you lost your job just as much as you are, I'm hardly going to be smug about it am I?" she said, a quiet sigh following.
Alex simply nodded, as if saying 'Fair enough.'
"I guess I'm gonna have to find some other job to do soon. I can't keep lounging around all day every day."
"You know for now you could always help around here? I mean with Emma's health getting worse and Norman.." she trailed off, not really being able to explain his reasoning for not helping. "..well, you know; I've pretty much been working alone, so some help wouldn't go a miss."
"Oh I don't know. Running a motel, greeting people-not really my thing." He pulled a face.
Norma frowned a little, looking at him. "Please? I need all the help I can get right now.."
Oh she went there. With those sad blue eyes and the pleading voice. She knew she could have him wrapped around her finger with that look. He shook his head, sighing. "Fine. I guess I've got nothing better to do anyway."
