Chapter 23: Save the day

Taeko Miyazaki

The female had stopped to catch her breath. How long was she running for? She felt like she was running for an eternity. Was splitting up from the boys a good idea? She wasn't sure.

She knew that she had only done so in case they would find the others within the midst of this war. The female had suddenly fallen to her knees, completely exhausted. She stopped to catch her breath. She needed to keep on moving. She knew that with her like this, a demon would attack.

Before she could stand back up, she heard a female voice. Taeko looked up.

"Hey, you alright? It looks like you ran all the way here." The female voice had said.

She had made eye contact with another female with raven hair tied into a high ponytail. She had the standard Demon Slayer uniform on, but it was a dark green. She had caramel-colored eyes. A concerned look was on her face, as her hand was offered out to her.

Behind the female, was a male around her age. He had red messy hair, and emerald eyes. He had the same concerned expression on his face. Taeko nodded slowly, and slowly took the female's hand. He had the dark yellow uniform instead of green, however. But he had a red triangle patterned haori.

"I'm fine. And you're right. I have been running for a while. These demons won't seem to quit." The female had pointed out. The other had nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it seems like they won't." She had taken notice of her injuries.

"You're injured. Come on, my friend and I will take you to our home nearby." She had said, before taking the female by the arm. A few minutes later, without any demons around, arrived at a small home nearby.

"This is your place?" She had asked, as she took a look around. The male nodded slowly, speaking up for the first time. "It is. It's not much, but it's where we all live at. Well, the six of us anyway." He had replied.

"By the way, my name is Kazuki Muramoto. This here, is Karin. Karin Izumi." The male had said, introducing the male. The female offered her hand for her hand to shake, and the female gladly took it."

What's your name?" The female, Karin had asked. "Taeko. Taeko Miyazaki." The brunette female had replied.

"Well, it's a pleasure." Karin had replied, chuckling. "You should sit down so your injuries won't get worse. Karin and I will find the medical supplies." Kazuki had pointed out. Taeko nodded, as she slowly sat down.

She observed Karin and Kazuki carefully. She could tell that they were the same age as she was. However, it seemed like they have been demon slayers for a few years, seeing how experienced they were at this.

A few seconds later, Karin walked over to Taeko, then observing carefully at her wounds. There were scratches over her arms and legs mainly. Karin could tell that they were from the demons.

She then carefully grabbed some ointment, then gently rubbing it over her arms and legs. She then wrapped some bandages around Taeko's arms and legs. On the other hand, Kazuki had placed a glass of water on the table where Taeko was sitting at.

"Here. You should probably have some water. You must be thirsty after running all the way." Kazuki had pointed out. Taeko had thanked him, and slowly took a sip from the water. Karin had patted her shoulder gently.

"Take it easy, alright? Your wounds are going to heal in a bit, but you shouldn't push yourself." Karin had stated. Taeko nodded, as she continued taking sips from the water.

"Wait, you said there's six of you all? Where's everyone else?" Taeko had asked. Kazuki had paused for a moment, then answered her question.

"Ah, the rest of us went to fight, as well as search for any survivors that could be hurt." Kazuki had replied. "Wait, what if a demon breaks into this home while, you know, you all are gone?" Taeko had asked, a worried look on her face.
