Wicked Games

I woke up and did the usual. I got on the bus, where I usually slept, but I couldn't sleep. I was thinking about everything while I listened to music. And when I say everything, I mean everything.

I was thinking about school. I was thinking about how hard everything was. I thought about Brendon, and how he deserved so much better. I thought about my grades. I thought about food, delicious food...

And then I remembered the little game I'd been playing before vacation. I remembered I didn't take too seriously. When my score wasn't too low, I just thought "oh well, what can you do", and I wouldn't think about it again. I decided I'd retake it, but I'd change it up. Foods wouldn't just have a random score made up by me: each calorie in a food would score one point. The goal was to get a score under a hundred at the end of each day. If I wanted my body to be like Ana's, I'd have to control myself.

When I got to school I walked straight to my classroom. We had finals, so I definitely didn't want to be late. As I made my way through the halls, Ana approached me. I wasn't even surprised to see her anymore, not after what had happened yesterday.

"Hey," she said "did you even hear me last night?"

Oh my god. It wasn't a dream?

"You scared the crap out of me" I said in a serious tone.

"Why?" She asked, smiling a little.

"Because you broke into my house" I said, and she started laughing.

"What the fuck is wrong with you? I'm serious!"

"Marianne, didn't break into your house" she said, still laughing softly.

"So how'd you get in?" I asked.

"I got to your house before you did, so I rang the bell and your mom let me in. We talked for a while, and when she told me she had to go, I asked if I could stay and wait for you" she explained.

"Oh..." I said, still processing everything. That still didn't explain how she got in and talked to me when I was already in bed, but I decided not to push it.

"You said you'd trust me" she said, and I felt scolded.

"I'm sorry, Ana. It's not easy for me to trust people. But I'm trying, I swear" I said, and I was telling the truth.

"I hope so" she said, sounding somewhat hurt. "Did you have breakfast?" She asked.

"No" I told her. I didn't have breakfast, because I had to get a low score, and eating breakfast would add points.

"Good, I brought you something" she said, looking inside her purse. She handed me something wrapped in a napkin. "Bye!" she said, giving me a little wave as she walked away.

I looked inside. It was a green apple. Awesome, I loved green apples. I took a bite and kept walking to my classroom.

After my chemistry exam I went home so I could study for my other exams. I slept through the bus ride, and as soon as I got off I felt hungry. Really hungry.

I opened the door and avoided the kitchen. I had an apple in the morning, which meant I'd already scored 62 points. I had to keep it that way.
