*Rachel POV*

The feeling of the plane moving around became a normal, uneven pattern, that never ceased to annoy me. Outside my window was a wall of darkness.

"We're now over the Atlantic," the stewardess said dully, grabbing a short cup and filling it with water. She handed me the cup and then looked expectedly at Abby, who shook her head. She then tossed us miniature bags of pretzels that had the airline's name printed on the front. She looked in front of her. She pushed the cart forward, moving to the next row of passengers.

"You'd think she'd cheer up eventually. Get bored of being annoying," Abby smiled awkwardly and puffed air out of her nose as a laugh.

I reacted similar to her, not completely laughing. "I guess she's tired like us all though. I can't blame her. We're going to a new place. She doesn't do anything but fly back and forth. Imagine doing this every night."

"Oh god," Abby's face filled with realization. She then looked me in the eyes and places her hands on my shoulders. I faced her confusedly. "Remind me, if I ever get that job, to kill myself."

"Well, um, no? No death please." I knew she was joking, but I wasn't. I always became literal about things like this. I wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing. Death shouldn't be a joke, I thought. Even if both people thought they were joking.

"Jeez. Was kidding." She leaned back and slouched against her seat, sliding her knees forward, crossing her arms and pouting.

"I know," I tried to reassure her, to not sound weird or something.

The plane started rocking more than usual. I held onto the arm rests of the plane, watching the water I ordered hardly stay in the cup, it waving about, just like we were, I suppose. I felt immediately uneasy. I looked over at Abby, who was now sitting up, doing much the same as me.

Above us a noise binged above the loudness of the plane trashing about. "We are putting the sheatbelt shign on becaushe of the turbulensh. I'm shorry for the inconveniensh. It should be over shortly," the pilot breathed into the microphone.

"Ugh," Abby groaned.

"Do you want to try to sleep?" I asked her.

She laughed, "In this? Are you insane?"

I smiled awkwardly at my own stupid remark. Of course no one could sleep in this. I couldn't.

...

Somehow after the turbulence, I ended up falling asleep. I woke to the pain on my face from leaning on the fold out table in front of me. I moved my head upwards, only feeling a growing headache coming on. I blinked myself awake.

I looked to my side. Abby was still awake. She was staring at the ceiling blankly.

"Haven't you slept just a little yet?" I asked her.

"Nope," she shook her head. "Not a wink. I blame the plane."

"Much good that'll do when you're super tired tomorrow morning in London."

She didn't respond and turned away.

The cranky stewardess soon came out, but this time, with a microphone attached to the collar of her uniform. "Hello?" She tested it. "Okay. Hi. I have an important announcement to make. If someone is asleep next you you, make sure they get this information."

I turned to Abby, who shared my look of confusion.

"There are growing storms over Southern England right now. Because of this, we won't be able to land in London. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. We will be landing in Paris instead, and we'll make sure to get you transportation across the channel. That is all."

"But it always rains in England," Abby complained.

I nodded, but spaced out for a while in thinking. "The storm must be pretty big for this to happen," I thought aloud, "I hope Dan and Phil are alright."

"You can worry about your boyfriend and his companion later," she rolled her eyes.

"But honestly, what are we going to do?" I asked.

"We'll figure it out," she said.

"You don't happen to know any French?"

"Nope. You?"

"No. Nothing," I said, the words resonating back into my mind.

We were soon to be tired, and alone in Paris, without a word of French memorized.
