*Rachel POV*
The taxi ride on the way to my new flat showed me just how intense this actual storm over London was. Raindrops came in waterfalls. The windshield wipers swung at an unbelievable pace. The wind blew at the side of the car, making a deep humming sound. I just stared out the window, watching the weather do its thing, while just feeling so intrigued that I was able to be in London again. The streets were only vaguely familiar to me, but I felt instantly at home. But of course, it wasn't the place that made me feel at home, but the people who I spent time with.
"We're nearly there," I turned away from the window and spoke to Abby.
She nodded expectantly, and then looked out the window herself. "I always saw London as much bigger."
"It is pretty big. We haven't seen half the city yet," I laughed, confused.
"No, I mean, from all the pictures the buildings seemed so massive."
"Well, the famous monuments surely are, I'll tell you. But we aren't going to live in one of those."
She stared at the window a little longer.
"Are you going to like it here, do you think?"
She looked back at me. "I'm not sure. Maybe."
I felt an uncomfortable feeling in my gut. What if she doesn't like it? My home and my friend don't like each other? I quickly shook the feeling. I didn't bother worry further.
"This is your stop," the driver announced.
Abby and I looked at each other, and grabbed our bags. Opening our doors, we didn't bother using umbrellas. In front of us was our new apartment building. It looked similar to Dan and Phil's where I used to live.
We had to run through the rain quickly to make it to the door, which luckily was covered with a shade. Though only having to walk a few feet, we were completely soaked in water. Abby and I looked at each other with the same expression.
We climbed a single flight of stairs and found ourselves at the doorway of our apartment. I inhaled and stood briefly at the door. My new apartment, I thought to myself. I quickly realized staring at a door was not socially acceptable, and I quickly brought myself to knock on the door.
I waited in anticipation until the door opened up. A tall women with curled hair opened it up, smiling warmly. "Hello."
"Hello. I'm Rachel?" I said nervously, sounding unsure of my own name. "And this is Abby?"
"Oh yes. Come on in. I am Janine, the landlord of this complex. Might I show you around?"
"Yes," I said too quietly.
Janine stepped back and opened the door wider, motioning us inside. I stood like a statue, feeling suddenly frozen. Abby stepped forward into the flat and looked back at me, raising an eyebrow. I made myself snap out of it, entering the flat a bit embarrassed. Janine looked back at us slightly confused, smiling slightly.
Abby and I caught up to her quickly. She took us around the flat, her stylish high heels loudly clunking on any tile.
She stopped at the entrance, spinning around to face us, putting her hands together in front of her, "Well, that's all of it. I hope you enjoy your time here in London. Is this your first time living here?"
I looked between Abby and I. Soaked in rain, making the brave decision to wear sweatpants on the plane flight over - it was obvious we were not from around here.
I spoke for us both, "I lived here for a couple of months last year, but this is her first time."
She looked over at Abby with a smile, "Well I hope that you'll enjoy it here." She then looked back to me, "If you have any questions, give me a call. The number is by the telephone."
