*Rachel POV*

I scooted my chair back, the legs scraping against the floor, in a glorious sound that echoed in the room full of students. Taking the papers off the desk, I tapped them on the surface to align them. I proudly pranced up to the front of the student-filled room.

I handed the papers to the teacher, who took the papers and tossed them aside with little interest. In contrast, I felt bubbly inside, everything inside of me going to burst out of me with grand celebration at any given moment. I left the room with a skip in my step.

I breathed the fresh, crisp air into my lungs and exhaled. I was free. That was the last thing I had to turn in before Christmas break.

I practically danced home, probably turning a few heads in disbelief at my overly excited manner.

The air began to choke me at the front door of the apartment. The cool air threatened my warmth. My gait slowed to be uneasy, cautious. I hesitated entering.

It was dark. The air almost loomed. It wasn't dusty, but I imagined dust and started feeling trapped, dirty, rotting. I opened the blinds.

With the new light, I discovered Abby on the couch, turning a page of a book she was holding, and giving me an aggressive look.  I held my hands together, barely touching. I stepped back, and left the room.

It had been a week.

Soon I heard a knock on the door. I had memorized its sound, pattern and related them to its owner.  The warm, refreshing sound of James voice greeted at the door split open. Abby spoke lovingly, warm, friendly. I couldn't even recognize her voice as her own. It could've been only my imagination, memory projecting what I wanted to hear, or what I missed most. It was soon gone. James spoke, his voice's familiarity making me feel warm, like returning home.

But soon that all changed.

His hands tore at what I wore. I screamed. No one heard me. I screamed louder. People all held drinks, laughed, kissed. I could feel his hand travel into places I could never recount. Never remember. My vision blurred. I didn't know what happened. It was a blur. Leave me alone, I repeated. Leave me alone! I tried to kick him away, but my own force did nothing to him. No one noticed.

I woke up from the image, realizing that it wasn't reality. I thought it was happening, but it wasn't. James was in the other room, laughing. Abby too.

They soon left. I was trying to stop shaking.

I laid back for a while, and fell asleep from exhaustion.

Green fields stretched out before me. Speckled wildflowers danced in the wind. I could swear that I heard a stream. There was no one but myself.

I noticed myself to be carrying a basket, filled with cheese, bread, and grapes. There was a folded blanket too!

I laid the blanket down, and sat on it. Digging through the basket, I took out the cheese, bread, and grapes. I ate and looked, staring at the field in front of me.

Standing firmly to my side was a great mountain. It looked to be as tall as the sky. I wondered what secrets it held.

Wind danced in my hair. I soon found myself picking flowers and folding them into the strands of my hair.

For just a moment, I laid back and looked at the sky. Clouds came and went, each large, complex, deep, shapely.
